Weight Loss For Teenager?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: Im 14 years old, 5ft 2.. 120 pounds. I wanted to lose maybe 20 pounds or more, and go for a muscular look. Im starting to only drink water, and eat healthier! But Is there anything special I can do so by the end of summer vacation (early september) so i can get to my goal? Thank you!!!! :) If you want to say exercise, tell me what really helps lose excess fat!!! its all about losing the fat first. Then muscle.
Answer: First and most important. You should not talk about losing weight; talk about losing fat and gaining muscle, first you try to lose a load of fat, and some weight with that, than you want to transform your last bit of overdo fat into some muscles which are heavyer than fat!

Join a gym where they have those awesome fat meter equipment.. or just walk in for a free tryout, and do this every now and than at different gyms ( if its to expensive) they can give some great advice on this by the way.. most of them went to school for this… you should really be asking their advice but these are some rules i found on the web, and seem quite logical to me..

couple of simple ground rules;

1. Eat breakfast each day, skipping meals can cause you to gain weight.
2. Control your portion sizes
3. Make every meal look like a rainbow (no skittles :P) means ashitloadd of variety, apples, tomatoes, chicken salad, yogurtt go wild!
4. Choose foods and beverages low in sugar and fat
5. Exercise 5 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes working up to 60 minutes on most days of the week

especially if you want to gain muscle tissue, don’t be surprised if you gain some weight.. muscle is heavyer than fat! perhaps for the motivation it is best to start off with cardio and condition training, running, cycling, rope jumping break a sweat, after that build up muscle.. just keep eating in a healthy way.. use your brains to decide what food you ll eat, its all quite logical…

oh and maybe find a friend who will join you at the gym, or running every evening.. this makes it easyer to keep doing it..

Biggest issue is not all the plans and systems and stepbystep-crap, its just plain doing it.. people need all these systems because they hope that once its on paper theyll actually do it.. you dont need to count every carb you eat. Aslong as you have a fully functional brain you can figure out what is healthy, and how much to run.. just build it up a bit .. and take it further and further each day..

but hey.. i did not study this.. ask someone at the gym or some healthdoctor or something.. may be a more waterproof plan…

Can Anyone Sugest an Exercise Program for Beginners to Help with Weight Loss?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: I haven’t exercised much for 5 years (used to play squash, swim and do circuit training), and have put on a surplace stone or 2 which i need to lose. I already eat healthily, wth lots of fruit and veg and very little "junk food" but the excess weight remains. I am not excessively overweight, but want to do something now before it becomes a problem
Cheers for all the advice and encouragement, I’ve got some great tips from you all. I’m going to try a bit of walking/ jogging tonight and see how I get on (no time like the present to get started!) I’m not completely unfit as i do walk a lot and cycle a little bit. Thanks again guys!
Answer: I would agree with the swimming as it use all your muscles and has the water for buoyancy, start slowly and as time goes on then build up you will find it will tone and the endorphins will make you feel great.

Other wonderful exercise is walking maybe getting off the bus at a stop before you own then walking to your office, going out on the weekends with friends or a partner walking somewhere this will help keep your bones healthy and is good cardio vascular.

What about Pilate’s I have become hooked and in a period of six weeks I can see a difference and it works wonders for your stomach!

What ever exercise you choose make sure it is one you enjoy as the worse thing is doing it and finding reasons not to continue. If the weight does not shift do not get despondent because it goes on quicker than coming off, just keep going and the results will appear.

Other thought a bike ride in good weather what a great way to move around and keep healthy.

Your eating sounds fine drink loads of water.

Just put your mind to it call it changing your life style and looking after your body for the future.

Good Luck
You can do it….

I Have Slightly Flabby Arms…and an Ugly Bulgy Stomach!! But I'm Cute & Sexy Otherwise! Please Help!?

Another flabby arms question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I Have Slightly Flabby Arms…and an Ugly Bulgy Stomach!! But I'm Cute & Sexy Otherwise! Please Help!?
Answer: The human body is like a machine. Its performance depends on how you treat it.

Chances are what you eat is not suited to your lifestyle/metabolic rate. That’s why the unused portions of carbohydrates are stored in your body - arms and stomach in your case.

The easiest way to do get rid of this extra to switch a meal. I take a meal replacement and have lost extra inches round my waist and some weight. It’s not rocket science; it’s actually fairly easy. I personally lost around 9kg and may be 4 inches round my waist in a few months; slow and steady. And since I have not gone back to my old inappropriate diet, I’m not going back to my old shape.

If you have time, you can do specific exercises targeting your ‘problem areas’, and aerobic exercise to keep you in shape, and increase your metabolic rate.

Don’t worry, it’s just a small change in your lifestyle that will make you healthier and then happier.

Active Sex Life and Weight Loss?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: We are always hearing and reading that you lose so many calories through having sex.
Does this mean that if you don’t have sex regularly, then theoretically, you should gain weight? Serious question.
Answer: Well, it depends on how much activity you get otherwise.
Our body’s weight control system is pretty complex, though, and reacts to a number of factors. So, depending on how much sex you were having before, it’s possible that a lack of it won’t affect you at all.

Tips About Weight Loss….please Help!?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: im on a swim team, and its only during the summer. our practices are daily and it goes for about 3 1/2 months, so the weight comes off easy. the problem is, after practice, im left to just sit, and eat. im not too much over weight, but i would like to lose 20-30 pounds. and it would be really convenient to lose it in about a month. like i said, i have swim team, so its not like it would be really unhealthy to lose that much in that little of time. if you still believe it is unhealthy, im ok with 2 months. my question was what kinds of foods should i eat, how much should i eat, and how should i keep myself motivated to not eat all the other crap in my house. not getting the junk food isnt an option because i live with my family, and i dont want to make them give up the stuff too. please help!
Answer: 1 month probably is not the best even if you do swim a lot. 2 months is a lot more healthy and realistic.
Loosing weight is something that many people have difficulty with, but if you are motivated, you will do just fine. Be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables at each meal or as a snack. Make sure you look at portion sizes and try not to overeat. It is really easy to overeat when eating junk food and when you are distracted. Be sure to know what you are eating (don’t eat in front of the tv and look at the nutritional information on the food) Also, plan out what you are going to eat before you go to your kitchen for a snack. Think of something healthy and have your mind set on eating only that.
Keep in mind that eating junk food does nothing good for you. It can make you fat, break out, and make you not feel good about yourself. You eat the junk food for a minute and then its gone. Was it really worth it? I mean after that you just feel bad about eating it so your answer should be no.

I hope this helps :) remember: it will only work if you have the right attitude. You should be excited about starting a new healthier lifestyle and you should keep imagining your ideal body throughout this process.

Excess Sagging Skin After Massive Weight Loss….?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: I have seen a few TV programmes with women who have lost lots of weight and are left with very loose sagging skin which can only corrected by surgery.

Does this only happen when you are hugely obese to start off with ? (I need to lose about 56 pounds in total)?

Or is it because they lost large amounts of weight really quickly( most of these women had their stomachs stapled and so lost massive amounts of weight rapidly)?

Or is it because they didnt combine dieting with exercise?

Answer: I had a 170 lbs weight loss. 120 of those pounds were lost within 8 months. I exercise, and I am under 30 years old, but the skin still sags :( I will be having corrective surgery paid for by my insurance because it is a health risk for me. Since you only have 56 lbs to lose, you may not have a horrible time with loose skin. Do some toning exercises daily and use firming lotion and vitamin e.

Does the "weight Loss for Idiots" Diet Work?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I would like any views on a diet which is based on common sense, is not too difficult to maintain and which really works in the long term.
Answer: i know the web site program you are referring to , due to i purchased it for my research project for a dietitian course……anyway………it sounds easy enough, waste of money, and missing soooooo very much in nutrition………someone is making a ton of $$$ on this one, but will be short lived as the consumer becomes educated…….or one could only hope!
