How Fat Am I? (pic) and Weight Loss Tips?

Filed under: weight loss — Tags: — Tracy @ 7:02 am

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: http://i53.tinypic.com/2hd8q5h.jpg
Answer: You look fine :)

Ok, the key to weightloss is 3 main areas, exercise, nutrition and water. I’ll cover them all in a bit of detail for you.

Firstly, i’ll explain what weightloss is, and how it occurs. Basically, weightloss occurs when you expend, or burn off, more calories than you take it. You burn them off by doing things such as exercise, and take them in by eating. So if you burn off more than you take in you’ll be in whats called a caloric defecit, and that is how to lose fat. Ideally, you want to be consuming a number of calories, that is equal too your body weight in lbs, multiplied by 15

Now, the first part of fatloss is exercise. There are two kinda of exercise, cardio (running and such) and weighlifting, both are effective at decreasing fat, but if you do them both your fat loss will be exponentially greater. Firstly, you want to aim to do cardio 4 times a week, for around 30 minutes at a time. This will increase your metabolism, as well as burn calories while doing it. So not only do you burn calories while your exercising, but for hours after too, the same goes for weightlifting. Aim to weightlift 2-4 times a week, depending on how busy you are. There are many differnt exercises you can do, but for a plan that suits you, i’d head on over to www.bodybuilding.com for a great program.

Next is nutrition, and this is the reason most people fail at weight loss. You need to be eating around 4 or 5 small meals a day, and eat meal must contain a good source of protein, carbs and healthy fats. Good protein sources are lean meats, like chicken and turkey breast, legumes like beans, and tofu. Carbohydrates come in two forms. Starchy and fiborous. Starchy carbs are things like sweet potatoes, brown rice and wholemeal bread, and fiborous are things like your green vegies. All these are great for you. Stay away from any refined or processed carbs like white rice, white bread, candy and sugar. Thirdly, healthy fats. These are things such as olive oil, nut oils and avacado. Fats are a big part of weightloss, so dont avoid them completly, just the bad ones, and take in a small amount of healthy ones with your meal.

Lastly, hydration. Drink plenty of water! Enough said :)

This took a very long time to type out, so i hope you appreciate it! Any questions, fire me an email off my profile. Thanks, Josh.

Weight Loss and Thirst and Dizzy but Why?!?!?!?!?!? Helpppp (10 Points) ;)?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Why is this happening to me?
I’ am a 13 year old girl
I am 5′1
I’m 89 or 90 pounds
I’m like getting pale? but my parents are indian
I hardly feel like eating, i’m always feeling full
sometimes i get thirsty after drinking anything with caffine (its summer here)
I dont really get headaches but i get dizzy
well, I m eating alot of junk food and i’m constantly losing weight!
PLZZZ help!
xD
thnx
Answer: hey im not sure this will be of much help but i have had this problem - as of right now actually lol! What is helping me though is having 3 meals a day, actual meals like a sandwich, fruit, drink ect. My body is now becoming hungry at those certain times instead of feeling so hungry that i feel full lol (im pretty sure that is why that feeling is happening) As for the caffine, caffine dehydrates you if you drink to much of it, its hard to do but when the weather is as hot as it is your body is dehydrated anyway so i would stick with water even juices. Btw i was eating junk food all the time too and eating all the sugar can make your body almost repel it- it wants healthy food! Try eating meals at the same time as well as adding water, especially when your outside in this horrible weather. hope i helped!

Weight Loss Help Please!!!?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: Okay I’m a13 year old girl…I know I’m over weight, I’d really like help on how to loose at least 20lbs before the summers over…I cant always eat right ( mostly because I don’t know what to watch out for in foods), so I’m looking for more exercises, that help you loose weight even when you cant eat right all the time, I’ve been reading and reading on this subject, I’ve learned a few things ( but not sure if they are true) like having cold water on you ( like in your shower) for atleast 15 seconds can help tighten you belly skin, drinking cold water helps with that too, ive heard crunches dont really do any good for you, I’ve herad sucking in for atleast 15 seconds with help tone your muscles, and I’ve also heard spinning helps ( i dont know how though), am I getting the right advice? Can you help me from your own experince? Any advice that’s sure to get me results fast would be very much appreciated :) …I’m really tired of being made fun of for not being "skinny" or what ever, and it makes me feel bad so any help would be appreciated so very much :) thank you so so so much! :) @ Len what’s that?

Answer: Hard work and Dedication!
1. Start running regularly. Do a 10 minute jog every day and slowly move up in time and distance.
2. Crunches do work for you. Do them every night before you go to sleep. Again make sure you do it regularly.
3. Drink a lot of water. Avoid soda!!!
4. Avoid junk food!! (Fast food, chocolate)
5.Reduce your sugar intake.( drink your tea without sugar. Use honey instead)
6. Eat smaller portions.
7. Most important exercise.

Losing weight is hard and takes patience and dedication. Start excessing to your ability. Watch what you eat and you will do great. Also don’t pay attention to bullies, makes excessing much more fun and more rewarding

How Does Running/jogging Make You Feel? is It Good for Weight Loss?

Filed under: weight loss — Tags: — Tracy @ 7:02 am

A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: i want to try it but i’m not really fit. will i get better over time?
Answer: Right away it feels pretty good but after a while I F’ing sucks. Just run about a quarter mile to a mile however far you can jog without falling over when you are done and then increase it by 10 percent every week. Run every day and take one day off if you feel soar because you body does need time to recover about 1 day a week. If you just slowly increase the distance it would take a while to work your way up but is worth the long time you take to get up there and once your at a comfortable distance and you are satified with that then just stay there. Also don’t set it for 5 miles and then walk. Just set it for something you can jog the whole way through and then slowly increase it each week so you can slowly build muscle without causing much stress on your body.

Urgent Weight Loss in a Month?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’m 13, 5′8", and 165 lbs. I wanna lose all (or most, you know what I’m talking about) weight. Is there a specific way to lose a lot of my weight in a month? School starts in September (obviously) and it would probably be better to be the skinny guy again. Any advice on how to lose it fast?
Answer: Well workout as often as you can. Lower your calorie intake, stay away from the high carb and sugary foods and drink nothing but water. Drinking green tea burns calories and do all this and by school you should lose maybe 10 lbs. and that would be decent weight for you. !0lbs of fat is way more than you think.

Anybody Know a Lot About Calories/weight Loss? If So, PLEASE Answer My Question…?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: My Question: If I am trying to lose weight, is it better to:
(A) eat 1500 calories per day, and burn 500 calories per day exercising
OR
(B) eat 2000 calories per day, and burn 1000 calories per day exercising
OR
(C) it makes no difference

…and by ‘better’, I mean better weight loss results long term and the amount of fat lost.

Additional Info/questions:
>I heard that your body burns around 2000 calories a day through regular activities (like brushing my teeth and stuff like that) and bodily functions (my organs working). So if I burn and extra 1000 calories through exercise, would that make me have a 1000 calorie deficit, and make me lose weight, right?
>I also heard that your body gets used to the lower amounts or calories, so it makes it harder to lose weight (and easier to gain when you start eating a recommended calorie intake)….AND that your body goes into starvation mode when you don’t eat enough…so would that mean it’s better to eat more calories or will eating less calories burn more fat??????

Answer: haha hold your horses, your asnwer is a tough one to explain

first of all, congratulations, you know more about losing weight than 90% of the population, im so SICK of reading questions like "omg, i need to lose 50 pounds in a day, can i just, like, totally, not like, at anything, is that bad?"
youre on the money about starvation mode!

here is the short answer, B, option B will burn more weight
BUT, there is a better way to go about this, its not just calorie burning, losing weight is complex and there is a way to do it healthily, im not guarenteeing you burn it off fast, but you wil burn it off and keep it off

fancy fad diets, adkins, twinkie, low carb, they do work BUT they are unhealthy and by their nature (of nutrient deprivation) you will DEPRIVE your body of nutrients which are essential for living, no joke. besides, studies show that when you get off the diet, your body goes into "storage mode" and says "hell, those past months SUCKED, better stock up to make sure im happy when it happens again" and you will gain all if not more of the weight you lost back

now, physical exercise is the best way to lose weight, but you dont lose it in the exercise itself. when you do good exercise, like cardio, your metabolism is cracked up a notch to do bodily repairs (good exercise requires this) your body will break down your sugars (glucose, fructose, lactose), then your stored carbs and complex carbs (amylopectin, glycogen) , THEN your fat. when you exercise you use muscle which costs ATP, a readily accessed form of energy derived from chemical bonds in food (carbs, fats) the waste products of this biological reaction is CO2 and water, which is then excreted, this CO2 and water USED to be food/fat/calories.

this ATP will power the muscles in your body, allowing you to workout, but these mescles will be damaged slightly, this is good because your body will repair these muscles AND THEN SOME! so your body will continues to burn food away for about the next 24 hours after a good workous, repairing and improving these muscles

this is good, repairing muscles takes energy (and the more muscle you have, the more you can damage, and the more you can heal, which means even more calorie burning!)

and in addition to working out, there are other ways to boost this ATP productions, eating burns calories, so if you have frequent, smaller meals, you will burn more calories even if your normal food intake stays the same, because your digestive system is a bunch of muscles!

also drink water, you cant make ATP with decent water, and dehydration will make you less efficient in calorie burning, water will flush your system, and fill you up so u want to eat less. for a nice flushing, drink half your weight in ounces (so i weigh 100 lbs, so ill drink 50 oz a day) you need more than 8 cups a day, and the human thirst mechanism is actually quite primitive, and often fails to trigger, or is confused for hunger. thats why sometimes "were hungry but we just dont know what we want"…were thirst really

but here’s the caveat, you cant burn too much too fast, your diet plan is very intense. and you are right, you burn A LOT of calories just living day to day life (the rough formula is your body weight*11, that is how much your body uses just to llive, approx.)
remember how i said how your body makes ATP from carbs and fat, if you damage your muscles so much and frequently 2 things will happen
1)you will strain/pull/and possibly tear that muscle (or worse a tendon or ligament) , causing you anything from minor discomfort to months of rehab pain and surgery, my dad tore a muscle playing a game of volleyball, so be careful and stretch properly before activity… a damaged muscle will decrease your performance (like limping) or make you unable to workout (like being in a hospital)

2)you will over metabolize, your body might panic with such rapid physical stress that it may over produce ATP, this sounds good, but get this. ANYTHING in your body can be converted into sugar (actually you dont burn fat, burning fat requires it to be converted into sugar first, which takes energy too!) this includes protein and DNA. you do not want to convert protein and DNA to energy, this is like buening a house down to provide warmth, because all of that muscle you worked so hard to make, will be destroyed and sent to heal some other body body part. so you just wasted those hours exercising, no fun

so how do you know if you are burning too much? it is considered "too much" when you burn more than 1 pound a week, its ok to burn 2 pounds a week, but it is very hard on your body, VERY hard, and will be hard to maintain without injuring yourself
and just so you know, there is roughly 3500 in a "pound"

happy burning :)

Easy Weight Loss? Anyone ?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: Im getting close to a healthy weight but it just seems like,i still hav this stomach helpp please I.just look.like I way more than I do something tht works in, like 3 weeks
Answer: jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight
evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in
specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
to work double on them. The best approach is this:
1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
weight, lower for overweight).
2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
an excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a
stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture,
for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure
that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you
will damage your back and spine! Slowly move the upper part of your
body back, until it’s parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and
move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times. Every week add
to the number of repetitions. You will see the results in a week,
guaranteed! You will see or feel under the fat - if you have any - six
pack and muscles. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these
crunches - I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT
ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.

Questions About Weight Loss?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: ok, so i’ve been checking out the SparkTeen/people diet program. according to that, i can burn a pound of fat per week if i eat 1800 calories and burn 120 calories through 20 of exercise (doing this for five days a week) so, how the heck is that supposed to work/ my BMR is roughly 1350, which means i’d have to burn about 650 calories a day just to break even, plus another 500 to loose a pound per week. this obviously doesn’t match the sparkteen plans. it still doesn’t match up when i include calories burned by water and muscle per day -_-. so how does sparkteen really work? does it work? should i continue to try to eat 1800 calories, or lower the amount to reach my weight loss goals? what has worked for you? plus, the few times i got to 1800 calories was when i ate extra junk! gah! i’m trying to eat enough spread throughout the day, but hitting 1800 on healthy foods is leaving me feeling so stuffed and uncomfortable. i check the "wellness scale" on the site, and it whines at me and says i’m not eating enough, so i end up pigging out, which hurts my goals. WHAT THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? i don’t want to lower my metabolism too much so that my body is hanging on to fat reserves, but i don’t want to keep it too high so that my calorie burn rate isn’t enough. i’m so lost! i guess if i eat REALLY small meals throughout the day (like, 100 cal every, like, every hour from 7am to 9pm XD [slightly unrealistic example, but you get the idea]). THOUGHTS??
Answer: ok..unless you really put your mind to it you are never going to see results….let me tell you about myself…5 months ago my weight was 187 ,now 5 month later i am 138…how i did it….first i jumped in the treadmill for 35-45 minutes a day….well did I forget to tell you to have a coffee first thing you wake up….that fills you up..then you can have a egg white with some straberrys…for lunch chose some chicken or fish with some vegies..and then around 5-5.30 you only have a salat……i drinked like3-4 coffees a day…I fellt less hungry…..american coffee helps your metabolism go faster and european givs you strength so every time i wanted to run i had a european coffee like 5 minutes before… and for the last 4 weeks i also started to have a tea before 8 pm…its called ( the three queen ladies) try it..it freaking works and its really cheap…and try this exercise it works like a miraclehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkD9LwDBWW0&feature=player_profilepage…..hope i helped…good luck
