Does the Pituitary Gland Play Any Role in Increased Weight Loss?

A tough weight loss question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: My mom bought a pair of pants for me a couple of months ago and when I first got them, they were extremely tight and now they are so loose, that when I wear them it feels like my pants are falling off.

However when I weigh myself on the scale, it says I’ve gained weight, even though my pants are too big for me now…

Answer: Sounds more like thyroid problem

Weight and Period Loss?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: I am 15 years old and I was a bit overweight last year. I lost about 7 or 8 kilos in total and am pretty happy with my body now except my thighs and face still have a bit of excessive fat, but my muscles are more defined and overall I am thinner.
During weight loss I increased exercise, including lifting weights and jogging on the treadmill, as well as a bit of cardio-dance training. I tried cutting out grains and also tried "food combining", I am now dropping both of those but at some point during my weight loss I also lost my period. I remember back near the first few months of this year I lost it for a bit then it came about half a month late, but then after that I lost it again and haven’t had it for like 3 or 4 months now. I was always pretty regular before so it’s not a fall out. People say that you lose your period with weight loss but I still have a double chin and pretty thick upper thighs so I don’t think I’m too skinny. Is it because I cut out grains? I have been eating them again for a while and twice I thought my period was about to come but it didn’t. Or is it the food combining? Do I need to gain weight again to get my period back? But I still think I should lose the fat that’s still left on my face and legs. What should I do?!?
Answer: Its just that your body needs time to adjust, give it a while. If youre concerned, Id reccomend a doctor, Congrats on the weight loss by the way! Smiles and Luck, Belle. :)

Various Weight Loss/healthy Living Questions - I Will Pick Best Answer Today :)..?

A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: This past few days I’ve had a massive cheat on my diet, bingeing on cookies and crisps, I feel so bad :( So I’m trying to get back on track with my healthy eating, I was just wondering is it better to have a heavy lunch or a heavy dinner? A few hours after lunch I generally go to gym.. At evening, I generally feel a bit bloated after dinner so will it be best for me to have a light dinner? If so, what should I eat?
I’m trying to lose weight and tone up, what essential foods should I consume to help me along the way? What’s the best fruit and veg to have? I’m not really a picky eater but when I come to junk food (which isn’t that often) i binge terribly and I feel really guilty afterwards. How can I stop this?
Also, I am thinking of buying Zumba for the Wii, is it a good workout that will show good results?

Thank you :)!

Answer: Hey :D

You have the right idea when it comes to dieting ^_^ It’s nice to answer someone who isn’t completely clueless (:

Question 1: Heavy lunch or heavy dinner?

Answer: I would suggest having a heavy lunch. In the middle of the day, you are more likely to be hungry, and a heavy lunch will give you more energy in the afternoon, especially since you are going the gym. And anyways, there is more room to binge in the day that there is at night, so a good lunch will perhaps stop your binges (:

Question 2, related to Q1: What to eat for a light dinner?

Answer: Well, what ever you’d have for a light lunch ^_^ Soups, sandwiches, sushi and crunchy salads (with no dressings) are a great idea, as they are filling but they don’t have too many calories - remember the four S’s (. Soups and salads usually have a high water content, which will help you feel full. Also, poultry, like a lightly dressed chicken breast, is low in calories but it very tasty! In terms of sandwiches and sushi, try to pick ones which are low in calories (some sandwiches and sushi are soaked in high-calorie mayonnaise and stuff) and use wholegrain rice or bread. Wholegrains are higher in fiber (but not necessarily lower in calories) than their ‘white’ counterparts. Fiber helps you feel full :D

Question 3: What essential foods should I consume to help me along the way?

Answers: There are lots of foods which are great for weight loss :D The best are:

Eggs - high in protein but low in calories at around 100 for a large egg, these make a great snack or breakfast.

Apples and ‘crunchy’ fruits and vegetables - these hold the nutritional benefit of all fruit and vegetables, but because you can chew them, they can trick your brain into making you feel fuller.

High water content foods - Water fills you up (:

Pasta, bread and Carbohydrates - Yes, carbs! Believe it or not, these are essential for weight loss. They give you energy and (yet again) they are very filling. But beware: the low-carb diets work sometimes because carbs often equal calories. Measure out all your carbs so you don’t go consume too many calories, and pick up the wholegrain versions (:

Fruit and vegetables - not only do these contain a lot of essential nutrients, but most (sans bananas and avocados) are low in calories but very tasty and satisfying :D

Question 4: The best fruit and veg?

Answer: As I said above, most fruit and veg are good for weight loss :D Berries and msuhrooms are a good choice, as you can pick at them like you would crisps or chocolate buttons left on the counter (I know my family do that :P) but they’re relatively guilt-free. A 400g tub of strawberries contains about 110 calories (the same as a single banana!) :D Watch out, though. Like all foods, fruit and vegetables are good in moderation, but they still contain calories, so make sure you keep an eye on the calories, especially on those deliciously high-cal bananas (:

Question 5: How can I stop binging?

Answer: Okay, so this isn’t a paragraph. Here’s a list of my no-binge tips:

+ Don’t keep ‘binge’ foods in your cupboards. Cookies and chocolate are likely to be eaten if you can see them when you get something from your pantry.

+ Replace high-calorie foods with their low-calorie counterparts. Ice cream becomes frozen yogurt and greek-style yogurt becomes fat free yogurt. This way, even if you binge, you won’t feel as guilty. But just because they are low-calorie doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch your intake.

+ Have a little of what you fancy, and weight it out. Get your scales out, and if you fancy some chocolate, check the calories per 100g and use this to your advantage. To find out the calories in one gram, divide the calories/100g by 100. If you have an amount of calories you want to use up, then divide this by the calories/gram. For example, if you wanted to eat 60 calories worth of M&M’s, you take the calories/100g, which is 491kcal, then divide it by 100 to get the calories/gram, which is 4.91kcal. Now, divide 60 by 4.91 and that’s 12 grams! Now weight it out and there you go!

+ If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. If you despise kale, but it’s in your meal plan, then you’re only going to end up craving nice food, like cookies. However, if you pick foods that you like, and they fit in your meal plan, then you’re less likely to think of the ‘binge’ foods.

Question 5: Should I buy Zumba for the Wii?

Answer: definitely! Any exercise is good exercise :) Other good Wii games for weight loss are Just Dance and Just Dance 2. I personally don’t like Wii Fit, because the exercise is boring and un-motivating (:

I hope I helped :D Bare in mind, I am not a professional, so for the best advice, I would recommend making an appointment with a doctor or dietician (:

Good luck ^_^

Teen Weight Loss Help?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: I’m a 17 year old female,160 lbs and 5′4". My goals are to get toned and down to 120 lbs. Besides healthy diet & exercise what other things can I do to lose weight faster? I’m starting hockey & I know it would help me a ton if I was to lose these stubborn 40 lbs. Thanks for the help! :)
Answer: I’m a 16 year old male, 5′4" and 136 lbs. I weighed 152 lbs and decided to lose some weight. I exercised for 30 minutes in the morning / night and ate a fraction of my meals. So basically eating 3 small meals with an hour work-out per day did the job for me. I lost about a pound every 3 days and to figure out how much weight your body loses per day naturally, you need to calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).

Again, your BMR is how many calories you lose naturally a day, doing nothing.

Does the Honey and Cinnamon Mixture Help for Weight Loss?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: Have you try it?. I am on a 1200 calorie diet and I exercise one hour a day running and Pilates. I eat healthy but I’ve only lost 2 lb in 3 weeks. Do you think cinnamon and raw honey will help me?
Answer: The only thing besides surgery that will allow you to lose weight is a sensibly balanced diet and moderate exercise increasing to full out exercise as you body becomes stronger. If there was a magic potion or even some kind of magic food obesity wouldn’t be a problem. We’d all be running around like Twiggy (the sixties model) or Kate Moss. And then , just because it;s human nature to desire what you can’t have all the plump or curvy women will be laughing behind your back as they make off with your boyfriend.
I was once extremely skinny 5′5" 113 lbs. Then I had two kids and filled out. I took sometime but I’m now completely comfortable with myself. I’ve been at 145 for many years and the world still turns, I’m still great at my job and I’m asked out nearly every weekend.
At the risk of sounding something more than just cliche: Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all.

I Feel Like if I Eat Something, Weight Loss Will Go Nowhere?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I don’t even know how to explain it without sounding crazy or like I have an eating disorder. Don’t get me wrong, I love eating food, and I’m chubby but I need to change, I need to change now and I need to get slim as fast as I can. I’ve been watching my diet like a hawk, all I consume pretty much is fruit and oatmeal. I can GUARANTEE that what I eat does not exceed 1000-1500 calories, but after I’m done eating it feels like I’m fat and weight loss will not work. It’s been like that for a few weeks. I went from 255 pounds to 236, and I see no damn different anywhere in my body. Every time I put something in my mouth I feel like its just going to completely halt my weight loss. I exercise, I diet, I do cardio. It all feels like it amounts to nothing, I feel like to changes, I still have that pudgy stomach and I feel like crap. I basically feel like not eating at all. Anyone have words of motivation or advice?

It’s like….. if I don’t eat hardly at all, my belly feels skinnier and I feel like if I keep not eating it’ll stay like that and keep getting skinnier, I know about the starvation mode talk so I don’t need to hear that. Then if I put something in my mouth, it feels like my belly expands a lot again and I’m as fat as can be.

Answer: Did you possibly take some kind of "before" picture before you started your diet so you have something to compare how you look now to? You probably just don’t notice the difference in how you look because it happened gradually and there wasn’t like one day where you just woke up 10 pounds lighter.

Think about it, you’ve lost 19 pounds, that’s so much, you should be so proud of yourself. If anything, you deserve a treat like a cake or something, you don’t have to worry about this diet not working, because it obviously is.

I understand how you feel though, trust me. Just remember that with the amount you’re eating you’ve already lost so much weight, you don’t need to be eating any less. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful, but good luck.
