Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: so im 5′2 and weigh 147 lbs & i want to lose weight & maybe replce it with muscle i suppose, i have way to much flab on my belly, thighs and the top of my arms how do i sort it? how much exersize do i need? not something silly like half an hour because i dont think that would help.
im a female btw and football isnt a thing id be into but thanks i will keep it in mind :)
Answer: Hey Lisa,

It isn’t as easy as it sounds, I know. The best thing you can do is exercise. Now, you may think "Okay, I’ll throw on some sneakers and go for a jog." That won’t do it. And in fact, you probably aren’t willing to start your fitness journey by displaying it in front of the world, right? If you’re like me, you want to get fit where no one can see you struggle. That’s why I do in-home fitness DVDs. Not like the creepy Richard Simmons kind of videos, though… In fact, if you really want to get fit by January- the BEST advice I can tell you is to order P90X. It’s a 90 day total body transformation that is used by celebrities like Bruno Mars, Bret Favre, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Pink, and Michelle Obama. Some people lose over 100lbs in just 90 days. And even better, it specially focuses on turning fat into muscle! I would recommend nothing but this. In fact, here, this link will take you straight to information about this: https://extranet.securefreedom.com/MillionDollarBody/csShopping/ShoppingCart_Detail.asp?PriceID=93429&Cat=Fitness%20Program|P90X

Heck, if you are really into this home fitness things, there are a lot of programs you can look into. Go here: www.beachbodycoach.com/bransonp

Also! Look up my fitness page on facebook. It’s called "Time to Transform with Coach Paalyn." I update it with fitness tips, motivation, and advice as often as I can. And I ALWAYS respond to questions and inquiries. I hope this helps you out. Please feel free to message me on facebook or whatnot if you have any questions I can answer!

Teen Weight Loss Help?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: I’m a 17 year old female,160 lbs and 5′4". My goals are to get toned and down to 120 lbs. Besides healthy diet & exercise what other things can I do to lose weight faster? I’m starting hockey & I know it would help me a ton if I was to lose these stubborn 40 lbs. Thanks for the help! :)
Answer: I’m a 16 year old male, 5′4" and 136 lbs. I weighed 152 lbs and decided to lose some weight. I exercised for 30 minutes in the morning / night and ate a fraction of my meals. So basically eating 3 small meals with an hour work-out per day did the job for me. I lost about a pound every 3 days and to figure out how much weight your body loses per day naturally, you need to calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).

Again, your BMR is how many calories you lose naturally a day, doing nothing.

Weight Loss Help???!!!?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: im 15 years old & my summer had a horrid start and i gained 30 lbs. i weigh 228 right now and i N E E D to lose about 90 - 80 lbs. by august (2012) or sooner!!! right now i have not been doing anything so i need all the help i can get!!
-thanks!! :)
Answer: I am not an expert or a medical person but this is my advice. You should always check with a doctor, especially if you have conditions or are on any medication.
Tips:
-Drink around 8 glasses of water (it will help you feel full and flush out toxins and stuff)
-If you don’t like plain water, try sparkling or seltzer water or add a tiny splash of lemon juice or orange juice
-Limit salt in foods you eat or put on foods and eat less sugar unless you need it for medical reasons
-Start taking short walks and increase every few days if you feel like you can (maybe 15-20 minutes a day)
-Eat as much fruit and vegetables as wanted
-Don’t skip meals and go grocery shopping when hungry
-Try not to eat lots of food with high fructose corn syrup
-Don’t drink soda
-If you live alone, don’t keep junk food in the house
-Try to only weigh yourself once a week and 1st thing in the morning
-Make smaller portions so you don’t overeat and if you still feel hungry, wait 15-20 minutes because sometimes it takes a while to feel full
-If you have a craving, wait 15 minutes and drink water. If you still have it, have a small amount of it

Ideas for breakfast (eat in the morning-don’t skip):
1. A bowl of oatmeal with berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) and a piece of whole grain toast
2. Scrambled eggs with skim milk and low fat cheese if wanted (2-3 maybe) 3. Hard Boiled Eggs (2-3 maybe) 4. A fruit smoothie and yogurt or toast 5. Yogurt (1 of my favorite brands is Stony Field) and fruit (any type is good-apple, banana, grapefruit, etc.) 6. Cut up Grapefruit and a low-fat muffin 7. Half a bagel with peanut butter spread on it (the protein in the peanut butter is good for you) If you are still hungry, try adding a piece of fruit) 8. A bowl of healthy, not sugary cereal with skim milk 9. Drink skim milk, orange juice, or apple juice with your breakfast

Eat snack 2-3 hours after breakfast if hungry and 2-3 hours after lunch if hungry.

Lunches:
1. Grilled chicken salad with lettuce, spinach, tomato, carrots, broccoli, chickpeas, or whatever vegetables you have or want in it (Limit salad dressing, use something like a small amount of olive oil, lemon juice, or vinaigrette) 2. Try wrapping a sandwich in lettuce instead of bread 3. A sandwich-pack with vegetables like lettuce, tomato, spinach If you want bread, try whole grain For the meat, use chicken or low-fat turkey 4. Buy low sodium soup from the grocery store and take fruit, carrots, and maybe a few whole grain crackers with it 5. Tuna salad is healthy to eat for lunch If you like chips, pretzels or popcorn is a nice substitute 6. Take whole grain pasta or spinach pasta and mix vegetables in it and put a dressing like vinaigrette on it 7. Half a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread and fruit or vegetables, pretzels, or popcorn 8. Hard boiled eggs are also good for lunch and dinner 9. Buy pita bread and stuff it with turkey and cheese or chicken and vegetables 10. Try taking a Boca Burger (vegetarian version of a hamburger) or Boca Spicy Chicken and cut it up and add to a salad or wrap it in lettuce to make a sandwich 11. Low sodium Tomato Soup and half of a grilled cheese sandwich is healthy (use cheese made from skim milk) and pair it with fruit or vegetables 12. Chill made from ground up turkey instead of beef is healthy since it has so many vegetables in it 13. Yogurt, fruit, and mixed nuts (almonds and walnuts are very healthy) 14. Drink lots of water

Healthy Snacks:
1. A handful of pretzels 2. A handful of popcorn (no butter) 3. A handful of mixed nuts (walnuts and almonds I think are the healthiest) 4. Fruit Smoothie 5. Cup of yogurt 6. Half a piece of whole grain toast 7. Edamame Soybeans (sometimes just called soybeans) in the pod or out of it are very healthy and high in protein 8. A mini chocolate bar if you have a sweet tooth or craving 9. Fruit and Vegetables 10. Cut up apple with a spoonful of peanut butter 11. Carrots and low fat ranch dip 12. A handful of trail mix or make your own (raisons, almonds, m and m’s, peanuts, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, whatever you like add) 13. A handful of pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds 14. Box of raisins 15. Find healthy hummus or guacamole at the store that don’t contain tons of ingredients and preservatives and dip baked chips, pita bread, pretzels, etc. in it 16. A handful of baked chips and salsa is healthy 17. Cottage cheese 18. Nature Valley Granola Bars 19. Melt chocolate chips and dip a banana in it and freeze it 20. Fruit cups with natural syrup 21. Applesauce 22. Frozen grapes 23. Rice cakes

Dinner:
1. A half of cup of brown rice with steamed vegetables and grilled or boiled chicken 2. Brown rice with 2-4 slices of turkey with vegetables 3. Chili and a small piece of cornbread 4. Try taking a Boca Burger (vegetarian version of a hamburger) or Boca Spicy Chicken and cut it up and add to a salad or wrap it in lettuce to make a sandwich

How Can I Loss My Weight Without Exercising?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: my weight is 85kg & my height is 5ft.i think my weight is more than normal and evryone suggest me to wieght loss bt they dont know how exactly.can anyone give me any suggest without execising how can i loss it.i have pain in lower back and right leg,so i am afraid i cant do exercise bcoze it increases my pain.:(
i cant walk a long time it increases my pain,and i m a girl!!!!!!
Answer: changing your diet to only healthy foods is the best thing you can do and will ensure you will lose excess fat, if combine with walking every day , especially. Also, you will feel much better mentally.

you can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, lentils or dried beans (provide much "lean" protein) , grains (Asian basmati or jasmine rice gives lots of energy and can be found at your local oriental/asian market or some super markets), & yogurt..2. drink only water, juice, & milk..3. walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer and a rice cooker ((Both Very cheap)) .which, used together make it very easy to prepare very nutritional, healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil , diced garlic, pepper, sliced lemon and spices on top of steamed vegetables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are very healthy for your body too.)

Weight Loss Questions? Cycling, Etc?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: Okay so I’m a bit of an overweight guy… Okay I’ll start with honesty. I’m fat. Fatter than I’d like.

When it comes to losing weight, when I diet, weight just sort of falls off, I’m just lazy and like to eat what I like, so it works against me. So, now with my rugby team in need of me to lose the weight and replace one of our veterans, I’ve got sufficient motivation to lose the weight.

I know how great of a weight loss method running, jogging, and walking are; but is riding a bike a sufficient replacement for that? (and I know, I know. There’s loads of running in rugby.. I’d rather lose the weight then condition. Running while fat blows). I absolutely detest running.

So would a mix of cycling & lots of crunches daily a sufficient replacement for running or jogging? (along with dieting).

Answer: Your proposed strategy of a mix of cycling and lots of crunches daily combined with dieting is very sound and should achieve your objective. Cycling is equally good as as running, jogging, brisk walking and power walking.

Weight Loss Suggestions? ?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: Alright, so I’ve tried so many diets and some of them work but only to where I loose like 10 pounds. So basically I’m in need of some helpful suggestions from someone whose been successful at a diet that actually works.& yes I do exercise daily, but it only helps a little. So please, I’d like to loose at least 30 pounds in a month.
Answer: I’m going to have to open with something mildly insulting here, so for that I firstly apologise.

You want to lose 30lb in a month? Are you trying to kill yourself? If you really want to lose that much that quick, here’s my suggestion, get surgery its the only way without killing yourself for nothing.

Diets DON’T WORK. Every diet claims to help lose X in the space of Y and its a load of bull. Oh sure you lose the weight, but thats because you create a deficit on something your body needs to survive so it destroys everything else to make up for it. Not just fat, muscle everything. And what happens when you reach your desired weight? The survival gene we all have kicks in and your body goes into overdrive storing up excess in everything especially what you lacked before, and you wind up fatter than you started.

You want to know how to lose weight? Eat healthy, and exercise.

And I don’t mean healthy as in a bit of asparagus on the side of a teaspoon of lima beans. I mean a mixed balanced diet, You’ll want to keep fruit and veg fairly high, as well as eating a good portion of protein while keeping fat down. Something like eggwhite omlette for breakfast, etc. At the same time cut out processed or fried foods if you can. Also you may want to get some for of fibre supplements. I say the above for two reasons

1: Protien will help you build muscle mass and help keep you feeling full
2: Fibre will keep you regular and again keep you feeling full.

As for exercise, a 20min jog each morning won’t cut it, the more lean muscle you have the more you’ll burn fat while resting. This is why I say to ingest a good amount of protein. Instead of doing your jog do some form of muscle work out each day, whether it be crunches, push ups, squat thrusts etc. There’s a reason to gain muscle mass and i’ll tell you what it is now

1: The more muscle you have, the faster you’ll burn calories. Not only that but you’ll even burn them while resting.
2: You’ll look better. People who are just plain skinny look wrong. Look at super models with all their ribs sticking out, its disgusting. Now look at some of the top celebs or actresses, at how firm and flat their stomachs are, this isn’t just from diet this is from building up a decent amount of muscle.

But if you want to lose 30lb in the space of a month give up now. Unless you’re willing to pay for surgery.

Weight Loss Plateau Tips?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I’ve recently hit a weight loss plateau & haven’t lost much weight in the past couple of weeks (I lost about 15 lbs since January, but it’s come to a halt). I exercise about 5 days out of the week for 30+ mins, and I try to eat as healthy as I can (though sometimes I slip up). Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Answer: You’re probably not on a plateau and the reason you think you are is because you’re watching the scale and not tracking your energy intake and output. Or, perhaps you ARE on a plateau of your own creation because you’re nibbling, not counting condiments or creamers, etc. and have sunk your own diet because you’re not tracking. Tracking is crucial to the success of a fat loss diet. Here’s how you should be eating.

The best diet for losing fat is the same as the best diet for building muscle which is the same as the best diet for maintaining health and body weight. In other words, everyone should be eating essentially the same macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fiber barring special health or medical considerations because we all have essentially the same physiognomy. Here is the diet approved by the US National Institute of Health…the people your doctor listens to.

Eat varied, wholesome, and high quality foods such that your daily caloric intake is about equal to your daily caloric burn while keeping your macronutrient ratios at about 55/25/20 (%calories from carbs/fats/protein). Only slight changes should be made in the macronutrient ratios to accommodate the extreme demands of special activities such as athletics or inactivity due to illness.

Note: Here are the details in case you’re interested. —> http://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2010.asp
and here —> http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/nutrition.html

You get to make the food choices based on culture, available foods, personal preferences, your resources, food allergies, etc. However, the words "varied", "wholesome", and "high quality" are important. And, you should consume your food in 4-6 daily meals with healthy snacks between such that you’re nourishing yourself every two hours when awake.

If you want to burn body fat, simply decrease portion sizes of your food such that your daily intake is 500 calories less than your daily burn rate. That should result in a loss rate of one pound per week.

If you don’t know how to proceed, here are the only two websites you need.

1. This site has a wide range of information about foods, fat, diets, and exercise with calculators, diet tips, food facts, etc. —> http://www.freedieting.com/

2. This website is a great way to track calories, macronutrients, water, and exercise. It also does all the math for you and makes it super easy to look up foods to enter into your online food intake diary. There’s a discussion forum where you can exchange info with thousands of other dieters. —>http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

Here’s my food intake diary as an example —> http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/clickmaster

Tracking your calories is crucial to your fat loss and maintenance. Tracking your macronutrients is crucial to your health. And, of course, it is implied that you will learn how to read labels, weight portions, do food lookups, enter data, interpret data, etc., if you don’t already know how. It’s all easy stuff and, if you persist, it will eventually become such a routine that you’ll be able to enter data from your cell, know what your daily nutritional requirements are real time by the hour, interpret labels and estimate recipes, plan cheats, and, best of all, you’ll have no plateaus because you’re not relying on the scale to tell you if you’re losing, gaining, or maintaining.

Good luck and good health!!

Quick Weight Loss Plan Work?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Im in on a boxing team & I need to get to a lower weight class by June. I have until June 10th and I’d like to lose 18 pounds ! It’s just for my team so don’t tell me I’m going to gain it all back and whatever.
So I’m eating 900 calories a day and burning 1200 calories a day. How long will it take me to lose 18 pounds?
Okay if you knew anything about boxing and the weight classes, all that matters is that i lose this weight. How tired I am does not effect my training if I eat a ton of healthy foods. Im very used to this. I’v just never tried to lose this much weight. ALL I NEED TO DO IS LOSE 18 POUNDS. everything else is irrelevant
Answer: Great luck to you!
How to lose weight fast

1. Drink plenty of water. Our body needs a lot of water so give in to water. Water is not just way to flush out toxin but if you have more water in your body you will generally feel healthier and fitter. This it self will discourage any tendency to gorge. The best thing about water is that is has no calories at all.

2. Start your day with a glass of water. As soon as you wake up, gulp down a glass of cool water. It’s a wonderful way to start you day and you only need a lesser quantity of your breakfast drink after that. A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and sort of lubricates the insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea but have it after a glass of water. It is good for you.
