Summer Weight Loss/exercise Help for a 14 Year Old?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: So im 14, female, 5′5 1/2, and about 136 lbs. I know, Im fat… but by the end of summer, I want to weigh about 122. Ive lost some weight already, at the end of april I weighed 145 or so and then i only rode a bike for 45 minutes 3 days a week. But now that Ive lost 10 lbs I still feel I need to lose a lot more and I have more time for exercise now. So Ive been following a plan of 1800 calories a day and for exercise Ive been doing a 45 minute bike ride 4 days a week, and running abut 1.5- 2 miles the other 3 days. I been doing that for about 2 weeks now… but ive only lost 1-2 lbs and i gain it back really fast. Am I eating to many calories? I have this weight loss thing on my phone where you enter in all the weight you want to lose and what exercises you do, and it says I should eat 1900 calories a day! That seems really high.. so like I said, I only eat 1600 sometimes I have more, but if I eat a little more I end up eating everything in my kitchen, haha, but should I lower my calorie in take? And also I have some questions.. is it bad to eat a peanut butter sand-which if the peanut butter is jiff? Like my mom doesn’t buy the healthy stuff and I love peanut butter so I take a slice of bread and put a banana or honey on it. And how much weight would you recommend I lose? Is 12 lbs enough? Thanks, and can you not say I should take diet pills or a paid diet program, my mom would never let me do that.
Answer: First of all I don’t think you’re fat. I weigh about 116 and I’m only 5′1 and I consider myself underweight. It’s good to exercise and you seem to be doing a good job so far.

But if you still want to loose more weight maybe you could add a group sport, like basketball or soccer and any other team sport you might be interested in that could help. As for the calories what happens is if you don’t take enough calories per day your body wont let you loose the weight as it will "think" that you’re starving yourself and it will try to retain as much fat as possible. As for the peanut butter the problem I see with it is the added sugar otherwise peanut butter is good but I would not add honey to it. The thing is, sugar and sweeteners are mostly empty calories they go right into your gut and stay there. One more thing, maybe you could consider running longer distances.

I hope this helps.

Stay healthy!

Please don’t take diet pills. You’re only 14 and you are going to grow taller so you might actually look much slimmer in a few years without actually loosing weight but just because you’ll be taller.

Safest Weight Loss Pills for Teens That Work?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: So basically, I’m 16, 5′4 and 135 pounds. Last year, I lost 30 pounds from 800 calorie diet and 4 hours of exercise a day. I ended up 115 pounds and was happy with my self for once. Then my parents flipped and started calling me anorexic and forced fed me and wouldn’t let me work our any more. I gained back the 20 pounds and hate myself for it now. I have no confidence any more and it’s really hurting my mental health.
I’m trying to loose it again through a 1200 calories diet and an hour per day, because that’s all my parents will allow without sending me to a hospital again. I’m in dance, which is 1.5 hours, twice a week that is added to my workout per week. None of it works and I am constantly gaining weight. I feel horrible because I’m the fattest girl in my class, with a 28 inch waist and a size 26 in jeans. The only resort I can think of is diet pills.
I need help finding out what the safest diet pills I could take are. The only health problem I have is b12 deficiency and I have a sensitive stomach. I know, none of them are safe and they are not recommended for teens, but it’s my only resort.
Help would be nice. Thank you.
Nox and Rachael :
I do eat proper and exercise more then most people in my school. 60-120 minutes a day, every day. A lot of my body weight in muscle, but I want to loose every bit of fat. Plus, every dietitian that I went to said that the human body only needs 800 calories per day to work properly.
Also, I am not bulimic, I got over that. I do not make myself throw up anymore after eating.
Answer: I agree with Nox, also NO diet pulls work. Please do it the proper way, a healthy diet and excersize. Summer just around the corner, perfect time to change !

Am I on the Right Track to Weight Loss?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’ve always been a thin girl, ranging from a size 0 to a size 5. At age 17, I started birth control, which took me from 101 pounds to 164 pounds in just 2 years. This drastic weight gain has really taken a toll on my personal life. I’m definitely not as outgoing as I used to be, and I’ve lost a lot of confidence.

I’m making some changes! I just purchased an elliptical, which I plan on using every other day. As well as Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred that I plan on using the days I don’t use the elliptical.

ALSO, I’ve made positive changes to my diet. I completely cut out sodas (I normally had 2 or more a day), went from whole milk to organic fat free, and white bread to wheat bread.

Even though I’m not a big fan of diet pills, I’m actually terrified of what they can do, I purchased Lipo 6 because of it’s great reviews.

Anyhow, I’m just asking for some advice. I’ve never had to watch what I eat or do anything to maintain my thin physique 2 years ago. Am I on the right track to weight loss?

Answer: Pills over the counter are never a good idea for weight loss. I have seen too many young girls with damaged health from taking one pill or another. Gaining that much weight in two years might be caused by other things like PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Certain hormones may correct the situation. Fad diets are never good, everyone’s nutritional needs are different. Getting rid of soda is a great idea ,it is so toxic. Go to a nutritionist and do a consult, it is worth the money, write down what you eat, doing this has shown to be the most successful in losing weight and keeping it off. Get some blood work done and get a medically based sound diet and you will succeed and feel good too. But it really seems to be associated with hormones, so its worth seeing an Endocrinologist to explore that possibility. A specialist in hormones and how they react on the body. I know someone who had PCOS and saw the physician, took some medication to balance out her body chemistry and lost 80 pounds.Good Luck

Does Anyone Have Any Good Recommendations for Online Weight Loss Support Groups?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: I was considering joining weight watchers, but don’t want to spend about $40 a month. I have been struggling with my weight for the past few years, I put on about 40 lbs in a matter of 4 months and believe it was due to diet pills (taking them, and then stopping). Now, no matter how much exercise or how much I watch what I eat, I can’t seem to lose weight. FYI: four months ago I became vegetarian and for a long time I have mainly eaten organic foods.
Mr. Obie:

I decided to switch to a vegetarian diet after reading "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Saffron Foer. So, initially it was because of animal cruelty, but then I started finding out all of the health benefits that are associated with this kind of diet. Also, since I have made the switch to vegetarianism, I have been able to lose a couple pounds (and more easily than when eating meat), but it still comes off VERY slowly and my body seems so sensitive - I gain weight for the smallest slip up, but it takes me seven days of strict diet and exercise to lose a pound.

Thank you for your advice!

Answer: Great! Organic foods are awesome, especially if they are from your backyard and you harvest them right before you eat them. What a handful of nutrients! Good choice on that one.

If indeed you are exercising and watching what you eat but still not getting closer to the physique you want, then obviously one or more systems in your body is out of whack. You need to figure out what’s wrong and then your optimal diet. What prompted you to switch to a vegetarian diet? If your body doesn’t function well on a vegetarian diet, then you would probably have a difficult time getting to the physique you want. You need to find your your unique metabolic needs and begin implementing that diet plan and changing your lifestyle for long-lasting lifetime vibrant health, not some short-term diet pill.

$40 a month is probably a good investment towards your health. Remember, your health isn’t just an asset, it’s a liability.

My recommendation would be my website, where you get personalized correspondent support. After all, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Best of luck

Wishing you the best in health,

Mr. Obie

Yes, This is a Weight Loss Question. Please Help?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: I had a baby almost 2 years ago. before i got pregnant i was a healthy toned 150 pounds, and when i got pregnant i got up to 230. once i had my daughter i had gall stones so i was put on a really rough diet and could only eat 20 grams of fat per day so i basically survived off of saltine crackers and small amounts of veggies. i ended up losing 50 pounds, and then after i had my surgery to remove the gall bladder i blew up to 230 AGAIN in a year.
i had been really pissed off with myself and embarrassed with how i look that i was too embarrassed to even leave the house to exercise! (how pathetic is that?) so i have just recently decided to go on a diet and stick with it! im living overseas with my husband and daughter and we go home in 8 months and i want to lose 70 pounds by then.

is 8 months a reasonable amount of time to lose that much weight?

i work out every other morning and i target different areas on those days in rotation.

an example of what i eat everyday is

breakfast:
2 hard boiled eggs
1 orange
1 piece of toast

Lunch:
a salad with black beans, turkey(or chicken or tuna) cucumbers, carrots, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, grapes and no dressing.

Snack:
is usually some baby carrots or an apple.

Dinner
sometimes i skip dinner, but if i dont i eat fish, grilled chicken or a bowl of soup.

i work out every other morning for 45 minutes.

Does all of this sound like its a good enough plan?

im 20, 5′7 and 230 pounds. how quickly should i start seeing results?

sorry this is so long, but i appreciate the answers.
thank you!
Also, me and my friend are dieting together and we are keeping tabs on each other threw skype. haha. and we have both been thinking about taking diet pills but are going to give it a month to see if we lose weight…would diet pills even work without hurting us?
uh how is that unhealthy? its less than 10 pounds a month……

Answer: Hey :)
Don’t skip meals - it’s not good for you.
Your food sounds healthy though and that’s real good.
You could try smaller more frequent meals a day rather than just three, try six.
8 Months is good - I started weight loss in September 2009 and now I’ve lost 45lbs and I’ve got a few more months to go.
Aim to loose about 1-3 pounds a week, that’s healthy. Some weeks I loose none, some weeks I gain, some weeks I loose 3 but it’s fine. Your body changes according to weather, water and monthly period cycles!
It’s good your friend is helping. I wouldn’t do the pills until at least 3 months later. I don’t even think they work… :( I’ve not touched them, too controversial for me.

Also with your toast have wholemeal toast instead of white ;)
And I was too embarrassed to exercise so I brought a treadmill and it’s AWESOME It really helps.

GOOD LUCK and all the best.
You can do it - I’m a real lazy-butt and I did it too!
:D
