Should Weight Loss Be Based on a Number or Our Feelings? Please Answer!?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: When people are on a diet or losing weight some might try to go down to a specific number but some people look at it on how they feel about their body and if they’re comfortable and their appearance.
Oprah Winfrey even said that it should be based on how you feel not just a number.
So I want to know what everyone else things and how everyone else feels about this.
So what do you think weight loss should be based on?
Answer: Whatever Oprah says! what’s wrong with you???

Weight Loss Suggestions? ?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: Alright, so I’ve tried so many diets and some of them work but only to where I loose like 10 pounds. So basically I’m in need of some helpful suggestions from someone whose been successful at a diet that actually works.& yes I do exercise daily, but it only helps a little. So please, I’d like to loose at least 30 pounds in a month.
Answer: I’m going to have to open with something mildly insulting here, so for that I firstly apologise.

You want to lose 30lb in a month? Are you trying to kill yourself? If you really want to lose that much that quick, here’s my suggestion, get surgery its the only way without killing yourself for nothing.

Diets DON’T WORK. Every diet claims to help lose X in the space of Y and its a load of bull. Oh sure you lose the weight, but thats because you create a deficit on something your body needs to survive so it destroys everything else to make up for it. Not just fat, muscle everything. And what happens when you reach your desired weight? The survival gene we all have kicks in and your body goes into overdrive storing up excess in everything especially what you lacked before, and you wind up fatter than you started.

You want to know how to lose weight? Eat healthy, and exercise.

And I don’t mean healthy as in a bit of asparagus on the side of a teaspoon of lima beans. I mean a mixed balanced diet, You’ll want to keep fruit and veg fairly high, as well as eating a good portion of protein while keeping fat down. Something like eggwhite omlette for breakfast, etc. At the same time cut out processed or fried foods if you can. Also you may want to get some for of fibre supplements. I say the above for two reasons

1: Protien will help you build muscle mass and help keep you feeling full
2: Fibre will keep you regular and again keep you feeling full.

As for exercise, a 20min jog each morning won’t cut it, the more lean muscle you have the more you’ll burn fat while resting. This is why I say to ingest a good amount of protein. Instead of doing your jog do some form of muscle work out each day, whether it be crunches, push ups, squat thrusts etc. There’s a reason to gain muscle mass and i’ll tell you what it is now

1: The more muscle you have, the faster you’ll burn calories. Not only that but you’ll even burn them while resting.
2: You’ll look better. People who are just plain skinny look wrong. Look at super models with all their ribs sticking out, its disgusting. Now look at some of the top celebs or actresses, at how firm and flat their stomachs are, this isn’t just from diet this is from building up a decent amount of muscle.

But if you want to lose 30lb in the space of a month give up now. Unless you’re willing to pay for surgery.

Fitness and Weight Loss Advice Needed! 10points for Best?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: i just got a gym pass and basically all i wna do is loose weight and ton…and yes im on a diet…the guy that signed me up told me that i was going to "need a trainer" to guide me through the right path so i can do it right…but im sure can do it myself…what should my fitness be like when im there? starting with what? when do i tone? do sit up? in what order is it best to be done? please help
Answer: Okay, this will sound weird, but trust me in this. I used to be on a diet, and I gained 10 pounds in a week. I was only eating fast food the next week and I lost fifteen. Then I got kind of curious. Also, my best friends eats out on fast food around 4 times a week, and she is a light, thin woman. But I have great tips on gym. To keep your stomach toned and looking amazing, try hanging on to a pull up bar and curling your legs so your knee touches your chin. Do 5 sets of ten, and you will already be seeing results. After, run on a bicycle for a half an hour, then a treadmill for 15. It may be short, but it works out a lot of different ways, and the results are amazing. Try doing this 3 times at the gym, reducing the amount of pulls on the bar, and increasing times on the bike and treadmill. Good luck and I hope you
enjoy the results (:

At What Point in My Weight Loss Will My Thighs Stop Chafing?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I am currently 195 lbs and I am only 5′4" tall. Yesterday, I decided that I needed to get more strict about diet and exercise if I really want to take control of my weight.

My goal is to lose 65 pounds so that I will be 130 lbs — right in the middle of my healthy BMI range. Does anyone know at what point I can expect my thighs to stop chafing? (If at all? Or do I have to lose more than that before they’ll stop rubbing against each other?)

Answer: I’m like 198lbs and 5′7" and they don’t rub much so i don’t think you’ll need to lose much, some part will always rub against each other, that’s how human body is.
In math it should be between 5 and 20 pounds because it depends on what form is your body

Why Weight Checking is a Problem for Weight Loss?

A tough weight loss question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I am on a diet, and if do not check my weight everyday (like every 4 days) then I lose weight. If i check everyday for four days then I don’t? Even though it has been the same amount of time. Please help me understand why this happens?
Answer: It’s water weight. Your weight can change by several pounds in a day depending on how much water is being retained by your body, something it’s very difficult to control. If you weigh yourself once a week, then take the average weight loss over a period of weeks you get a better idea of weight loss trends. If you do it daily you are just measuring how much water is held by your body.

Weight Loss by Running?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: As soon as it gets warmer here in about a month and a half I’m going to start runnin outside startin with runnin for ten minutes every day for a week and than adding five minutes every week how long would it take to drop about thirty to forty pounds? I don’t drink pop only diet green tea and water and I’m working on eating healthier (lol hard to resist taco bell) and what are some good ways to keep myself motivated to continue with this training? Thank you for your answers.
Answer: Mathematically, a person that weighs 140 pounds, running ten minutes at a speed of 6 miles/hour (something between jogging and running) will burn 106 calories. One gram of fat equals 9 calories, so roughly a ten minute run will burn 12 grams of fat. Loosing 30 pounds (13,607g) would take 1,133 days. If you run 30 minutes a day, it will take 377 days.

Please don’t despair… that was just to say, nobody can give you an exact answer. Exercising regularly will (1) increase you body average metabolic rate for a few hours after exercising, which means you will burn more calories than usual after exercising, and (2) as it promotes increase in muscle mass, that will also increase the number of calories your body burns 24 hours a day (even when you sleep). Loosing 30 pounds won’t take a year for sure!

From another angle, a healthy weight loss is something between 1-2 pounds a week, which roughly means a deficit of 500-1000 calories per day is the maximum a person should aim at in order to loose weight healthily. Deficit means the calories you burn by exercising plus the calories you cut out of your average daily intake needed. If an average sedentary person needs 2000 calories and only eats 1500, that’s a 500 calories deficit. Add ten minutes exercising, that’s 600 calories deficit.

That taco bell could average 500 calories, same as a burger or 100g of french fries, so minding what you eat is the key. Healthier foods with less fat and less sugar, and lots of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, that contain fibre that will help sweep bad fats and toxins from your body.

At the beginning it will be hard, but as you get used to exercising the endorphins created by exercising (the feel good hormone) will make you like it. Some other pointers can be:

- make exercise enjoyable, or to say, exercise in any way you can enjoy it
- to be safe and avoid injury, do not increase more than 10% exercise per week.
- vary what you do: run slower for longer, or faster in less time, or interval training (go fast/slow/fast/slow in one session), uphill/downhill (will help you build strenght, and speed).
- if you can, try walking (for double the time for same results as running), or swimming, or cycling. Varying your exercise in any way prevents your body from getting used to it, and help you burn more calories
- have one day off a week (to help your body recover), and always stretch after exercising
- cut fats and sugar out of your diet gradually, so you won’t feel deprived, and will be less likely to crave them
- one trick is, whatever you’re having, have 1/3 less than usual. Even if it goes in the garbage bin and you waste money, remember, your body is not a garbage bin. You’re not saving money by eating everything you buy, you’re just transforming money into fat that will make you unhealthy
- try to find new, more healthy things to eat, i.e., try to learn new recipes, or if you go to restaurants or have lots of takeaway, try different cuisines. You’ll be surprised how many things taste batter than taco bell. Fat and sugar can taste good, but spices and herbs can make a healthy meal absolutely delicious.
- by all means, set yourself some goals, and whenever you reach them, give yourself some reward.
- keep away from anyone that won’t fully support you. People that mock you because you’re exercising or dieting, or that are always motivating you to eat or try to keep you away from exercising are not bad people and don’t mean you harm, but their behaviour will surely help you fail all the way.

I Have Try Loss Pills, but Not Get Weight Loss Fast, Any One Can Recomendate Me Plan a Diet?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: I have try loss pills, but not get weight loss fast, any one can recomendate me some product? i want some nice articles and review product
Answer: I stuck relegiously to it for 3 months and lose 7 pound. I have quite a lot to lose so i thought i would lose more. The main problem was i ended up with too much uric acid in the blood and now my joints are painful but im going to try fast tract hypnosis. Keeping my fingers crossed. My friend also tried it and only lost 3 pound in a month.
edit this is something i read
I should know. I’m an idiot.

I bought the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program a few years ago (Actually, I think it was called "Weight Loss 4 Idiots" then). I was tempted by their claim that I could "lose 9 pounds in 11 days" by "eating foods that I choose". I was excited to fork over my money and begin my journey to weight loss success.

What happened? Well, when I tried to select my foods, I was presented with a list of food choices, many of which I didn’t like. Despite what they’ll tell you in the advertisements, this is a high protein low carb diet. And I’m a vegetarian. There were many "fake meat" products to choose from, but I don’t like those either.

Still, I thought that I might be able to substitute foods that I did like and somehow apply the principle of the diet. I didn’t like what I saw. Other review sites will tell you that you get to eat "4 square meals a day" on the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program. But this isn’t entirely true. You do get to eat four meals a day. However, the "meals" consist of one food only. How much of any one food can a person eat? Not much.

What about all the additional information that comes with the program? There was not a single piece of information on that site which I hadn’t already heard from a free source.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots only works because it is a very low calorie, low carb diet. However, it’s just that. A diet. It doesn’t teach you how to properly eat so that you don’t gain weight when you go off the diet. It’s likely that this is just a temporary solution.
The weight will come back.

The reality is that losing weight permanently isn’t easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. I know that’s not a popular sentiment, but it’s the truth. You are much better off making healthy changes over time that become a permanent part of your life.

Shannon Tani is a former fattie, who weighed over 220lbs. She has currently lost over 70lbs. One day she realized that people would rather hear dieting advice from someone who’s "been there, done that" than a boring old doctor who’s never been fat a day in his life. So she started the website Better Off Fat to share her experiences and ideas.
