Weight Loss During Pregnancy?

A tough weight loss question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: Before i found out i was pregnant i had an eating disorder for 3 years and also smoked.

I got better and got into a habit of keeping my food down and i quit smoking as soon as i found out i was pregnant. Im overjoyed because i had been trying to quit and get better for so long and struggled but knowing im responsible for another life helped me.

Anyway, its been 5 weeks and ive gained a bit of weight. Im very self concious but dont want to hurt my baby.
Is it okay for me to diet healthily to lose a few pounds or atleast not gain any more?

I’m 18 years old. I’m 5"6 and weigh 185 pounds.
I weighed about 140 pounds 8 weeks ago.
I dont want to be overweight.. I want to be able to see my baby belly and i want to be fit and healthy when my baby gets here.

I know you gain weight during pregnancy, I can gain the actual weight of the baby, I’d just like to lose some fat. I won’t have time to do it once baby is born.

Any advice is appreciated. <3

Answer: You are already gaining too much weight. 45 lbs in 8 weeks is a lot. It is more than what a woman should gain during the whole pregnancy.

Given your history, ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist. Ask the nutritionist for an eating plan that is healthy and will meet the baby’s gestational needs. Considering you gained so much weight so quickly, the doctor is also going to want to monitor you for gestational diabetes.

Right now, I would just concentrate on eating as healthy as you can–the nutritionist will help you with that- and doing low impact exercises such as walking and water aerobics. Do NOT start an exercise routine such as running or anything high impact if you were not exercising prior to the pregnancy.

Congratulations on your baby.

I Feel Like if I Eat Something, Weight Loss Will Go Nowhere?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I don’t even know how to explain it without sounding crazy or like I have an eating disorder. Don’t get me wrong, I love eating food, and I’m chubby but I need to change, I need to change now and I need to get slim as fast as I can. I’ve been watching my diet like a hawk, all I consume pretty much is fruit and oatmeal. I can GUARANTEE that what I eat does not exceed 1000-1500 calories, but after I’m done eating it feels like I’m fat and weight loss will not work. It’s been like that for a few weeks. I went from 255 pounds to 236, and I see no damn different anywhere in my body. Every time I put something in my mouth I feel like its just going to completely halt my weight loss. I exercise, I diet, I do cardio. It all feels like it amounts to nothing, I feel like to changes, I still have that pudgy stomach and I feel like crap. I basically feel like not eating at all. Anyone have words of motivation or advice?

It’s like….. if I don’t eat hardly at all, my belly feels skinnier and I feel like if I keep not eating it’ll stay like that and keep getting skinnier, I know about the starvation mode talk so I don’t need to hear that. Then if I put something in my mouth, it feels like my belly expands a lot again and I’m as fat as can be.

Answer: Did you possibly take some kind of "before" picture before you started your diet so you have something to compare how you look now to? You probably just don’t notice the difference in how you look because it happened gradually and there wasn’t like one day where you just woke up 10 pounds lighter.

Think about it, you’ve lost 19 pounds, that’s so much, you should be so proud of yourself. If anything, you deserve a treat like a cake or something, you don’t have to worry about this diet not working, because it obviously is.

I understand how you feel though, trust me. Just remember that with the amount you’re eating you’ve already lost so much weight, you don’t need to be eating any less. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful, but good luck.

Help I Need Weight Loss Tips !!?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: Im so depressed … I feel so fat im 13 and 8 stone and everyone else in my year has totally flat stomach’s :( …Does anyone no how i can lose weight fast !!….When i was younger i had an eating disorder and i don’t want to go down that road …Help !!
Answer: I know all about being depressed. I’ve been manically depressed since primary school.

Are you willing to do some exercises? I have a 15-minute workout available on my website www.freeexercisesforall.com . It’s a free downloadable PDF. And it’s a full body workout. Let me tell you you don’t need to do an hour’s exercise a day to get a fantastic looking body. It’s free so you won’t have lost any money if you do not like the exercises. Just give them a go for a month. If you don’t like them, you can stop. But you won’t know if they work without trying them.

The workout is a mixture of Callanetics, Pilates and stretching. I have taken the best from each and discarded the rubbish. These exercises will help you lose inches without dieting. If you diet at the same time, you will lose your inches even quicker. They build strength without building bulky muscles - you will get a nice shapely figure. You will improve your flexibility. You can do them in the comfort of your own home so you save on gym fees and travelling time to the gym.

The exercises will give you legs to die for, lift and shape your backside, cinch in your waist, improve your posture, eliminate flabby thighs, give you arms so you can wear short-sleeved tops in summer, flatten your stomach.

You can do the workout every day or every other day. Trust me these exercise work. I have taught these exercises for 10 years. Some of my students have been about your age.

My opinion is, that because you had an eating disorder, you should not worry about your dieting at the moment. Concentrate on the exercises.

I'm Concerned About My Friends Weight Loss Goals?

A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: In a previous question I explained how a friend wants to be so skinny she wants people to think she has an eating disorder. I’m explaining how important it is to be healthy and looking at her BMI. Right now she is at a healthy weight for her height and age. It is a little lower on the healthy side more towards underweight but still healthy. She wants to be just below the 5% range so she is at the cusp of being just underweight. She claims she doesn’t want to be too underweight, but she wants to be underweight.

She has been eating

breakfast-cherrios
lunch-handful of trail mix
snack-100 calorie popcorn and a small plum
dinner-small salad with no dressing. Just lettuce and veggies

She works out a lot too she has to be burning at least 600 calories a day.

Would you be concerned?

Answer: Yes, those are normal symptoms of anorexia. Low calorie intake and increased exercise. That’s exactly what anorexia is. Talk to her friends, her family and talk to her about this and your feelings of concern. She needs help, before it’s too late.
