A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week
I’m trying to lose weight and tone up, what essential foods should I consume to help me along the way? What’s the best fruit and veg to have? I’m not really a picky eater but when I come to junk food (which isn’t that often) i binge terribly and I feel really guilty afterwards. How can I stop this?
Also, I am thinking of buying Zumba for the Wii, is it a good workout that will show good results?
Thank you :)!
You have the right idea when it comes to dieting ^_^ It’s nice to answer someone who isn’t completely clueless (:
Question 1: Heavy lunch or heavy dinner?
Answer: I would suggest having a heavy lunch. In the middle of the day, you are more likely to be hungry, and a heavy lunch will give you more energy in the afternoon, especially since you are going the gym. And anyways, there is more room to binge in the day that there is at night, so a good lunch will perhaps stop your binges (:
Question 2, related to Q1: What to eat for a light dinner?
Answer: Well, what ever you’d have for a light lunch ^_^ Soups, sandwiches, sushi and crunchy salads (with no dressings) are a great idea, as they are filling but they don’t have too many calories - remember the four S’s (. Soups and salads usually have a high water content, which will help you feel full. Also, poultry, like a lightly dressed chicken breast, is low in calories but it very tasty! In terms of sandwiches and sushi, try to pick ones which are low in calories (some sandwiches and sushi are soaked in high-calorie mayonnaise and stuff) and use wholegrain rice or bread. Wholegrains are higher in fiber (but not necessarily lower in calories) than their ‘white’ counterparts. Fiber helps you feel full
Question 3: What essential foods should I consume to help me along the way?
Answers: There are lots of foods which are great for weight loss
The best are:
Eggs - high in protein but low in calories at around 100 for a large egg, these make a great snack or breakfast.
Apples and ‘crunchy’ fruits and vegetables - these hold the nutritional benefit of all fruit and vegetables, but because you can chew them, they can trick your brain into making you feel fuller.
High water content foods - Water fills you up (:
Pasta, bread and Carbohydrates - Yes, carbs! Believe it or not, these are essential for weight loss. They give you energy and (yet again) they are very filling. But beware: the low-carb diets work sometimes because carbs often equal calories. Measure out all your carbs so you don’t go consume too many calories, and pick up the wholegrain versions (:
Fruit and vegetables - not only do these contain a lot of essential nutrients, but most (sans bananas and avocados) are low in calories but very tasty and satisfying
Question 4: The best fruit and veg?
Answer: As I said above, most fruit and veg are good for weight loss
Berries and msuhrooms are a good choice, as you can pick at them like you would crisps or chocolate buttons left on the counter (I know my family do that :P) but they’re relatively guilt-free. A 400g tub of strawberries contains about 110 calories (the same as a single banana!)
Watch out, though. Like all foods, fruit and vegetables are good in moderation, but they still contain calories, so make sure you keep an eye on the calories, especially on those deliciously high-cal bananas (:
Question 5: How can I stop binging?
Answer: Okay, so this isn’t a paragraph. Here’s a list of my no-binge tips:
+ Don’t keep ‘binge’ foods in your cupboards. Cookies and chocolate are likely to be eaten if you can see them when you get something from your pantry.
+ Replace high-calorie foods with their low-calorie counterparts. Ice cream becomes frozen yogurt and greek-style yogurt becomes fat free yogurt. This way, even if you binge, you won’t feel as guilty. But just because they are low-calorie doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch your intake.
+ Have a little of what you fancy, and weight it out. Get your scales out, and if you fancy some chocolate, check the calories per 100g and use this to your advantage. To find out the calories in one gram, divide the calories/100g by 100. If you have an amount of calories you want to use up, then divide this by the calories/gram. For example, if you wanted to eat 60 calories worth of M&M’s, you take the calories/100g, which is 491kcal, then divide it by 100 to get the calories/gram, which is 4.91kcal. Now, divide 60 by 4.91 and that’s 12 grams! Now weight it out and there you go!
+ If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. If you despise kale, but it’s in your meal plan, then you’re only going to end up craving nice food, like cookies. However, if you pick foods that you like, and they fit in your meal plan, then you’re less likely to think of the ‘binge’ foods.
Question 5: Should I buy Zumba for the Wii?
Answer: definitely! Any exercise is good exercise
Other good Wii games for weight loss are Just Dance and Just Dance 2. I personally don’t like Wii Fit, because the exercise is boring and un-motivating (:
I hope I helped
Bare in mind, I am not a professional, so for the best advice, I would recommend making an appointment with a doctor or dietician (:
Good luck ^_^
Weight Loss Tips, Got Any?
Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
On topic, by my age I’m really overweight and I’ve decided to lose some weight I have a running track in my house, I’ve been exercising, and lifting weight. I’m wondering if any of you know how to increase the weight loss, drink only water, no beverages, not to eat any junk food and so on.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.
And what about drinking coffee with sugar?
