Weight Loss Question.?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: I hope someone can shed some light on this situation. I’m 18 years old and I weigh 280 lbs. Now, while this seems absolutely horrible (and it probably is) I consider myself to be pretty healthy. I constantly watch what I eat (about 1100 calories / day) and I exercise 3 times a week. In addition, I play a roughly 2 hour game of football with people from my Church about once or twice a month.

I consider myself to be a rather physically fit person but I feel I could LOOK a lot better. I just don’t understand how I’m not losing weight in spite of my activity level. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? Thanks in advance.

Answer: No fence, but once or twice a month of football is nothing. I consider me playing basketball an hour every week to be extremely unhealthy, so I try to do more than that; but anyways this isn’t about me. I think you should exercise a lot more because the exercise, in my opinion, does more than dieting. There are PLENTY of athletes out there that eat like crap like me, because we burn it off by working out. Im assuming you have the dieting thing down pretty good, because you said you eat 1100 calories a day. Sometimes I eat that much every day, and sometimes I eat 4000 calories a day; either way I burn it off by exercising. And exercising can be found many ways, like weight lifting, running, jogging, walking, going out, etc. A great way to assess your health is to check your resting heart rate, which is the easiest assessment I could think of for cardio health since you are 280 lbs. Your goal should be less than 80 beats per minute. If you don’t know how to do that, look it up, its really simple.

Do Weight Loss Tablets Work?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: Do they actually work? because Ive been trying to diet for so long and i just don’t have the strenth to commit to anything anymore. I just HAVE to eat. (I think im depressed so that does not help AT ALL) Im not rushing into anything, but do weight loss tablets work? They might be my only hope of losing weight for summer :) Thanks
Answer: They work but it comes back for most. See a bariatrician and try. If that doesn’t work, the only science backed (and usually insurance supported) process is bariatrics surgery. It works but has risks. Everything else is just fooling yourself or superhuman willpower the rest of your life.

14 Year Old Weight Loss?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: i will be 14 on december 8th and i am im guessing about 5′1 maybe a little shorter or taller . i weigh about 130-135 pounds. what is the average weight and how can i get down to it FAST like in a couple weeks ( i am home schooled so home all day) i have lost 7-10 pounds in the last couple weeks XD super happy :))))))) plz plz plz help i have like 2 "rolls" on my stomach and i want to be flat by summer but want to start losing weight NOW plz plz plz help (if you want to leave rude comments go ahead :( ): thx :) ps what are jack-knifes
Answer: When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don’t eat wheat then you don’t eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don’t eat junk food, and you don’t eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It’s not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

Obese Person In Need of Weight Loss Advice (PLEASE)?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I’m having a tough time losing weight and keeping my word. what’s the best way to lose weight? I am obese, 25 years old and I need to lose weight. I’ve struggled with weight loss for the longest time! I can eat healthy but not stick with It and I don’t remember when the last time was that I’ve exercised. I am planning to go to an event In April of next year and I need as much weight loss advice as I can get. I want to look somewhat different by then. I just hate the way I look, I weigh 302 pounds, I did weigh 307 but loss a few pounds, how can I keep up with my weight loss and stop giving Into junk food? quotes, advice, anything will help me as long as It’s related to weight loss, thanks for your time!
Answer: oh hey there!

i have the same problem as u. i REALLY need to lose weight on my thighs and maybe my stomach, otherwise the otehr parts of my body are great.
i heard that cardio is great to lose weight off thighs and stomach.
in case u dont kno wat cardio is, cardio is anything that gets ur heart pumping. so it could be running swimming nd even walking!
and u can eat an apple a day and drink 4 kg of water a day and it makes u so healthy.
to check if u r the right weight go here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
and dont listen to those people who tell u that when u lose weight u lose weight on all ur body, cos u dont. cardio is excercise especially for the thighs and stomach.
and u can lose weight in just one week! i tried what i told u and the next week my friend said:
‘hey, u lost some weight on ur face and legs!’
so yh.
and whatever u do DONT diet as if u do the next time u eat properly u r body will make u feel mega hungry and u will get lots of weight added on. maybe lower ur snacks and carbohydrates but dont skip meals .:)
oh and eat slowly cos if u eat ast ur food wont have gone to ur stomach yet and ui wont know if ur stuffed and u will keep on eating and gaining weight.

hope i helped :)

if i think of anything else i will tell u .
ps. and if u have an iphone or ipod u can download the six pack app its free and it tells u many excersizes which u can do to lose lots of weight fast!

Weight Loss and Pregnancy?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I’m overweight and was in the process of losing weight (in a healthy manner!) when I discovered I was pregnant.

What is the likelihood that, assuming I continue to eat healthy, balanced meals and exercise, that I may lose weight still during this pregnancy? I really do not want to undo all my hard work because of this, but I don’t want to hurt this baby, either.

Did anyone here lose weight while pregnant, and if so what did you do and not do? And how much weight did you gain and lose during this time? My BMI is 28.

Answer: A lot of women who are overweight and become pregnant do lose weight in the beginning of their pregnancies. Simply from the diet/exercise you mentioned. As long as you are eating enough calories to support a healthy pregnancy and your Doctor is monitoring your weight there isn’t a real problem with losing a bit of weight in the beginning and only putting on the recommended amount of weight (15-25 lbs for women who start out overweight).
Ask you Doctor.
I lost 6 lbs in my 1st trimester, not purposely, and promptly gained it back. I was 15 lbs from my ‘goal’ weight when I became pregnant, and decided to not worry about it until after the baby is born.
Good Luck.

My Weight Loss Question!!?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’ve been losing weight. I started out at 138.8 and now i’m down to 132.2. I really notice a difference in my butt and legs but nothing in my stomach- and that’’s where I want it gone the most. I know you can’t target weight loss in a certain area. But when should it start shedding off my stomach?
Answer: I know all to well how you feel, it seems like it takes forever but time is the key! i lost 30 pounds in a period of 6 months simply by staying in control of my calories that’s key to any weight loss and also exercise. I started out with 100 crunches, 25 sit ups and 20 leg lifts on each leg…this helped not only my legs but also my mid section. over time the amount of crunches and sit ups and leg lifts increased and before i knew it my tummy was flat at tight and i was 30 pounds lighter! I wish you the best and hope my experience helps you!

Weight Loss Help Please?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: ok i’m 15, male, 5′6 (if anyone cares about that stuff lol) and a little backround on me - i starved myself for four months and lost alot of weight but then started gaining it back so i started eating healthy and counting calories and exercising about a month and a half ago - ok so thats my backround. now i’m wondering why i’m not losing weight, here is my exercise plan -
3 30 minute walks a day
1 30 minute run
100 crunches, 40 (each side) side crunches, 40 leg lifts, 20 side bends, 50 push ups (and i do them before each walk)
and here is my diet - basically i eat anywhere between 1600-1900 calories a day (90 percent of the time is healthy lol)
now with doing all of that, WHY DOES IT STILL SEEM LIKE I’M GAINING FAT?!?!?! it doesnt seem to be much. its just a very small amount but it has seemed to get a little bit bigger. is it because my body isn’t over the starvation? am i doing something wrong? please help.
Answer: Could be a # of reasons, like perhaps you’re intaking a lot of simple carbs?

I’ve been at it now for 53 days. Working to lose 100 pounds, and I highly recommend some of the following advise.

1) drink plenty of water, and cut out any diet pops or beverages with aspartame. Also no juices or any other liquids. Add lime for flavor and detox benefits.
2) eat only healthy foods, nothing processed. Fresh fruits, veggies, and lean meats.
3) Avoid high carb foods like sugar, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, candy and chips
4) eat five or six smaller meals and snacks a day
5) exercise with cardio at least 30-40 minutes several days a week, but take some days for rest.

To date, I’ve lost 36 pounds.

Weight Loss Help? Please Reply.?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’m a fourteen, fifteen in September, year old female. My height is 5′6. I’m hoping to lose about 10 or 15 pounds in a relatively short amount of time. I currently weigh 120 pounds. I usually walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill for at least 5 days a week. I only consume around 1000 calories a day, but I’m having trouble losing weight. I mostly need to lose it in my stomach area, and I would really enjoy slimming down my arms (triceps mostly). Any advice?
Answer: Sounds like you might benefit from an extra daily training session, if not more walking then perhaps a "core" focused exercise workout like Pilates or Yoga. Something will help trigger those muscles into action that are being missed in your walking sessions (There are also some great arm related exercises/positions that might help with your tricep areas)

Also, personally not sure why calorie consumption is 1000 (I would have thought 1200 what be a better fit for you). Starving your metabolism with a restricted calorie intake will send your body into survival mode, thus storing that unwanted fat not releasing it … but thats just me :P
