Are These Weight Loss Tactics Safe?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: -replace breakfast and lunches with protein shakes.
-sleep under lots of blankets so i sweat out fat in my sleep
-no sugar
-very light dinners
-running with weights

any good weight loss tactics?
i only walk wit hthe weights, i put them down when i start running

Answer: A lot of people will replace meals with protein shakes Especially if they are trying to gain muscle so that’d work.

Sleeping under a lot of blankets would only hurt you. If your sweating (from just being hot) you don’t really burn that many more calories than normal. This would also probably disturb your sleep too and a well rested body performs better and burns more calories. Don’t use this tactic

Not all sugar is bad and cutting it out would be impossible. Unprocessed sugars found it fruit and other natural products are actually good for you and necessary for your diet. Processed sugars like in soda and candy are empty calories therefore fat. So if you mean cutting out sugars from soda go for it. Make sure you still get your fruits though.

When losing weight you need a calorie deficit for the day so smaller meal portions (smaller not skipped) will always help.

Running will help you lose fat however interval training will do much more. Doing fast exercises like in interval training will actually boost your metabolism for up to 38 hours while jogging normally is only a few hours after (4 to 8 I think I can’t really remember) and multiple studies have shown interval training burns a significant mire fat than a diet, or a diet and jogging.

Another note is you should find out how many calories your body NEEDS each day anything lower and your body will go into starvation mode and cling onto fat as well as you will lose lean muscle mass. eat about 1500 to 1800 at least if your a man and 1000 to 1200 at least if your a girl a better idea would be go to a website and see what they recommend for fast weight loss

Is This Snack Bad when Your on a Weight Loss Diet?

A tough weight loss question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: It’s called Nova Chips.
It’s 140 calories per serving, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 21g of Carbs, 3g sugar, 2g fiber, 3g protein.

Ingredients- Corn, wheat, rice flour, oat flour, cheee powder, soybean oil, butter, buttermilk, etc.

Answer: Chips are bad for you. Instead of eating chips try eating fruit or vegetables. Make yourself a nice yummy salad with lemon juice on the side and just a bit of pepper (no salt). It’s a lot healthier and if made right, it can be just as delicious.

I Just Found out Carbs Are Necessary for Weight Loss Especially if You're Physically Active.. Why Avoid Carbs?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I’ve been for a very long time lifting weights, doing cardio, and eating protein, but never touching the carbs for a very long time. What I was avoiding like the plague is what I need to manipulate my decrease in bodyfat. All you hear about is protein, but if you’re not ever eating over 50 grams of carbs for the whole day, your body will always store fat because you’re depriving it of sufficient carbs. Did you know this as well?
Answer: there’s good carbs and bad carbs. just eat a lot of good carbs like meat for protein and carrots etc.

junk food has carbs but those are the bad kind of carbs.
yeah i knew all of that a long time ago….

Will Weight Lifting Prevent Muscle Loss During Fasting?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: im a 5′9 204 lb 14 year old guy. i am eating very little and drinking lots of water and juice. i want to still have some muscle so i have continued lifting weights during my fast. based on research and word of mouth i think it will minimize the muscle i loose during this diet, cause im going to stay on it for 1-4 months depending on my progress. what do you think
well since ive been on the fast my strength gains are huge, so must be doing something right
yeah, allot of what i have been eating is protein. mainly meat like chicken and turkey
Answer: Short term gains. You need to keep the protein intake up or you will begin to lose muscle as the ligaments tear and cannot repair due to the lack of protein

Is Protein Good for Breakfast? To Help with Weight Loss?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: I’ve been hearing that eating hard boiled egg (whites) and other proteins is good for breakfast if you want to lose weight?
Today i had 60g of tuna and 2 hard boiled egg whites.

Thanks for the advice!
@ Yooo mynameis:
errr….thanks for the pics…?? lol…..

Answer: Protein is amazing to have for breakfast because it gives you an energy boost and promotes a healthy lifestyle. I am not however so sure about the weight loss factor. In my opinion and my mother being a physician while I am studying to be a geriatrician I recommend asking your local nutritionist or dietitian.
Good Luck and continue to eat well and exercise.

Can Anyone Help Me Make a Weight Loss Plan?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I am trying to figure out what a healthy daily food/water/diet is for myself. I have tried looking on the internet, but I am not getting accurate answers.

My questions are:

How many OUNCES of water do I need to drink daily?
What is an appropriate amount of calories daily for trying to lose weight?
What are my target daily grams for fat, sodium, carbs, protein, fiber, sugar, etc?
How much time per day should be spent exercising? Or per week?

And if anyone has some tips for getting rid (or lessening the appearance of) stretch marks, I’m all ears.

I am in my 20s and am 230 lbs. Answers targeted for a person in that age and weight would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: The amount of water varies from person to person and is not subject to categorize as a general basis for all people. Just drink as much water as your body tells you you need.

Try working out (not exercising = recreational) for a good hour (up to). Using Aerobics and Circuit Training is a great way to develop muscle and lose fat. You can go to almost any mma training website and pick out some exercises to use for your circuit revolution. Try to go Upper body to Lower body to Upper body, etc. You can also add in some strength training sessions where you use 1-5 reps of at least 3-5 sets. To get faster results, you are going to have to pass that pain threshold that comes with muscle fatigue. Its not easy but once you pass it, you will realize that there is a whole new level of training that can be acquired.

Dieting is pretty much the easiest of them all as you just need to simply have the will (choose) to eat a more balanced meal and less fast food. Its as simple as eating more fruits and vegetables and side dishes rather than have the whole plate be the main course with almost equal amounts of side dishes that I see so many do and wonder why they cant lose weight. Try substituting breakfast for a protein drink, and a small well balanced meal. Protein drinks are great for surpressing hunger and making you feel more full than you really are since it is released in your body at a slow pace.

Another important factor is your mental determination and visualization…if you cannot see yourself already thin and consider it impossible it will be just that. Think in terms of you already being the body frame you want and eventually your body will have no choice but to comply and tranform itself into that mental image you continuously meditate on. It helps to connect with strong emotional feelings about wanting and needing to achieve your ideal frame.

Hope this really long answer helps…have fun

Weight Loss Itself or the Protein and Carbs Difference Gets the 6 Pack Abs Results?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: I notice that when my weight gets lowered the abs look better. However, I hear stories about carbs and proteins….it all gets too technical. Is it all about the technical(carbs and proteins) or the overall in general (weight loss) when it comes to having a great body?
Answer: 6 packs… okay your total body fat is what gives you a six pack; we all have one under the flab somewhere if your body fat is under 10% (men) or 14% (women) then it should show through. working your abs (crunches) will make them look more impressive when they do show through. Lose fat to gain a pack.

Weight Loss Fast? Will This Work?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: ok so if i eat 1200 calories a day (ex. complex carbs, protein, veggies) and exercise 5 days a week (ex. 20 min pilates 2x a day and an hour of walking) will i be able to lose 12 pounds in 3 weeks? ordo i need to exercise more during the day? i really want to tone up and look good in a bathing suit by june 27. im 5′5 a girl and weigh 146 pounds.
Answer: Yes.
Make sure you drink enough water, since you will be putting a strain on your system, especially in Summer, (at least eight 8oz glasses, but 10 would be better).

Also try to balance out those 1200 calories to include a snack or two, and try to have the most calorie meal for lunch, not dinner.

MOST importantly, don’t get too obsessed with it, if you don’t lose the full 12 pounds. 10 will still be a major accomplishment, and 2 pounds won’t make that big a difference in how good you will look.

Best of success to you!
