A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week
Question: I am 24, I weigh 134, and I am 5′4"
Is 1 lb a week weight loss goal too much or too little? how about 1 and a half?
Answer: It takes 3500 calories burned to lose a pound.
3500 calories divided by 7 days= 500 extra calories you have to burn a day to lose a pound in a week.
So ideally you should only lose a pound to two pounds a week. That way you won’t be hurting your body by drastically reducing your calories. Or, you could just slowly decrease your calories, little by little.
A tough weight loss question this week. Let’s dive straight in
Question: Before i found out i was pregnant i had an eating disorder for 3 years and also smoked.
I got better and got into a habit of keeping my food down and i quit smoking as soon as i found out i was pregnant. Im overjoyed because i had been trying to quit and get better for so long and struggled but knowing im responsible for another life helped me.
Anyway, its been 5 weeks and ive gained a bit of weight. Im very self concious but dont want to hurt my baby.
Is it okay for me to diet healthily to lose a few pounds or atleast not gain any more?
I’m 18 years old. I’m 5"6 and weigh 185 pounds.
I weighed about 140 pounds 8 weeks ago.
I dont want to be overweight.. I want to be able to see my baby belly and i want to be fit and healthy when my baby gets here.
I know you gain weight during pregnancy, I can gain the actual weight of the baby, I’d just like to lose some fat. I won’t have time to do it once baby is born.
Any advice is appreciated. <3
Answer: You are already gaining too much weight. 45 lbs in 8 weeks is a lot. It is more than what a woman should gain during the whole pregnancy.
Given your history, ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist. Ask the nutritionist for an eating plan that is healthy and will meet the baby’s gestational needs. Considering you gained so much weight so quickly, the doctor is also going to want to monitor you for gestational diabetes.
Right now, I would just concentrate on eating as healthy as you can–the nutritionist will help you with that- and doing low impact exercises such as walking and water aerobics. Do NOT start an exercise routine such as running or anything high impact if you were not exercising prior to the pregnancy.
Congratulations on your baby.
Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:
Question: I’m 13, 5′8", and 165 lbs. I wanna lose all (or most, you know what I’m talking about) weight. Is there a specific way to lose a lot of my weight in a month? School starts in September (obviously) and it would probably be better to be the skinny guy again. Any advice on how to lose it fast?
Answer: Well workout as often as you can. Lower your calorie intake, stay away from the high carb and sugary foods and drink nothing but water. Drinking green tea burns calories and do all this and by school you should lose maybe 10 lbs. and that would be decent weight for you. !0lbs of fat is way more than you think.
We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:
Question: ok, so i’ve been checking out the SparkTeen/people diet program. according to that, i can burn a pound of fat per week if i eat 1800 calories and burn 120 calories through 20 of exercise (doing this for five days a week) so, how the heck is that supposed to work/ my BMR is roughly 1350, which means i’d have to burn about 650 calories a day just to break even, plus another 500 to loose a pound per week. this obviously doesn’t match the sparkteen plans. it still doesn’t match up when i include calories burned by water and muscle per day -_-. so how does sparkteen really work? does it work? should i continue to try to eat 1800 calories, or lower the amount to reach my weight loss goals? what has worked for you? plus, the few times i got to 1800 calories was when i ate extra junk! gah! i’m trying to eat enough spread throughout the day, but hitting 1800 on healthy foods is leaving me feeling so stuffed and uncomfortable. i check the "wellness scale" on the site, and it whines at me and says i’m not eating enough, so i end up pigging out, which hurts my goals. WHAT THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? i don’t want to lower my metabolism too much so that my body is hanging on to fat reserves, but i don’t want to keep it too high so that my calorie burn rate isn’t enough. i’m so lost! i guess if i eat REALLY small meals throughout the day (like, 100 cal every, like, every hour from 7am to 9pm XD [slightly unrealistic example, but you get the idea]). THOUGHTS??
Answer: ok..unless you really put your mind to it you are never going to see results….let me tell you about myself…5 months ago my weight was 187 ,now 5 month later i am 138…how i did it….first i jumped in the treadmill for 35-45 minutes a day….well did I forget to tell you to have a coffee first thing you wake up….that fills you up..then you can have a egg white with some straberrys…for lunch chose some chicken or fish with some vegies..and then around 5-5.30 you only have a salat……i drinked like3-4 coffees a day…I fellt less hungry…..american coffee helps your metabolism go faster and european givs you strength so every time i wanted to run i had a european coffee like 5 minutes before… and for the last 4 weeks i also started to have a tea before 8 pm…its called ( the three queen ladies) try it..it freaking works and its really cheap…and try this exercise it works like a miraclehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkD9LwDBWW0&feature=player_profilepage…..hope i helped…good luck

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:
Question: hi, im 14, 5′ 11", and 185 lbs. im really looking for a good weight loss plan for this summer, and then keeping the weight off over the school year, or continuing to lose weight during the school year.
My self-esteem isnt the greatest…im always worrying about taking my shirt off at the pool, talking to girls, all those things, and not to mention the ridicule i get every once in awhile at school.
my mom is over weight as well and wants to lose weight, but she works a lot, so im looking for a plan we could use together if its possible, but the main focus is a plan to lose the weight and keep it off, also, could someone tell me what a healthy weight would be for my size? thanks
Answer: About 160 would be a healthy weight.
Eat pleanty of fruits and veggies in your meals, and be sure not to eat to much at meals. Lay off sweets except for about one small treat a week.
And exercise daily whether its walking a mile, or riding you bike.
Doing things like this will help you to loose weight and keep it off
A weight loss question that should definitely interest you all this week
Question: In The Past I Was Never As Obese As I Am Now, Around 105-110 Lbs Reguardless Of What I Ate Even After Giving Birth To 4 Kids. In 2007 I Lost A Child And My Weight Reached About 135-140 Lbs. Then Last March My Husband And I Divorced And Now I’m At The Heaviest I’ve Been 161 Lbs And I’m Only 5"3.. Its Tearing Everything In My Life Apart. I Don’t Eat Very Much And When I Work Out It Seems I’m Gaining And Gaining. Very Depressing. Is There Anything I Can Do To Help To Lose The Weight Specifically, Its Only In My Belly. There Are A Lot Of Things I Can’t Take Because Of Heart Issues And I Need Some Types Of Sugar Or I End Up Having Seizures So I’m Extremely Frustrated. I Just Need Some Help Or Some Advice To Get The Weight Off Quickly And Keep It Off And Advice On How To Get Out Of The Depression That Comes Along With Being Obese And To Not Be So Disgusted By Myself
Answer: sigh…….dear, you are not OBESE!!!! You are just overweight. and there is NOTHING that is fast and permanent. NOTHING!!!! It takes hard work.
Exercise is the very, very best thing. Incorporate it into every day life - taking the stairs, parking farther away when shopping, going out for walks with the kids to the park, walking to the library with the kids, getting some roller skates and skating with them……Exercise will also help with your depression as exercise releases endorphins, which lifts your mood.
Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
Question: I have lost 20 lbs in 6 months….the only "2" things I am doing differently is 1-2 hour dog hikes in the woods at least twice a week with my 9 month old dog & yoga classes twice a week….I did need to lose the weight BUT was not trying to….would the 2 activities mentioned cause me to lose 20 lbs in 6 months…..I don’t feel sick….I work a full time & 2 small part time jobs I don’t eat large meals and have actually been eating fast food more so than I ever have to try to pick a little weight up but I seem to continue to lose….is the weight loss normal with the activities mentioned?
Answer: The hikes would do it. I would think it’d be the cardio workout and the fact that you work 3 jobs. I wouldn’t honestly worry about it, if you lose another 20 lbs in the next 6 months, I would consult a doctor.
What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…
Question: I’m 18 years old and I used to be in excellent health - always eating healthy and always working out.
It started a few months ago with appetite loss. It wasn’t that bad at first, but it has progressively worsened.
The fatigue came in a couple weeks ago. I would sleep a good 12 hours, and wake up only to go sleep another 3 hours on the couch. Normally I get 4-6 hours on average.
I recently checked my weight and I’m at 120lbs…I weighed 126lbs just two weeks ago. And I’m 5′7", so that has put me very close to the underweight category.
Yesterday and today my appetite has severely lacked. Yesterday I ate a stuffed manicotti and half of a sandwich. Today just a bowl of chili. Right now I feel extremely drained, slightly nauseas. I feel like I’m stuck in a never ending cycle of improper sleeping/eating. Can someone help me as to whats going on? I don’t think it’s depression because I’m usually always happy with what I have. It’s just that all of this is making me feel "blah" lately and I feel if I don’t take any actions soon, I could end up really sick.
Answer: Sounds like a case for the doctors. Diabetes II, pregnancy, or something serious.
Peace.
We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:
Question: I used to exercise 11-12 miles a week. I lost 10 lbs in a two-week period. Now I that I haven gained 60+ pounds over a two year’s time, what could I do to lose that weight now? I know they say the longer it’s on your body, the harder it is to get it off of your body, so what’s my best plan? Does it matter about my body mass? I don’t even know what mine is. Is it a good idea to talk to someone about this?
Answer: The BMI is a bs scale, it doesnt account of muscle or bone.
Ok so you need to change your lifestyle when it comes to eating and activity level. The best is either 5-6 200-300 Calorie meals or 3 300 calorie meals and 2 100-200 calorie snacks. No it doesnt have to be exact. you dont have to cute everything out forever. If you like bacon, eat bacon. Just 1-2 peices 1-2X a week. you like cookies 1 a night wont hurt.
Drink tons of water and you need to get at least 30 minutes of cardio 3-5X a week.
