Weight and Period Loss?

I just love answering these weight loss questions. Here’s another:

Question: I am 15 years old and I was a bit overweight last year. I lost about 7 or 8 kilos in total and am pretty happy with my body now except my thighs and face still have a bit of excessive fat, but my muscles are more defined and overall I am thinner.
During weight loss I increased exercise, including lifting weights and jogging on the treadmill, as well as a bit of cardio-dance training. I tried cutting out grains and also tried "food combining", I am now dropping both of those but at some point during my weight loss I also lost my period. I remember back near the first few months of this year I lost it for a bit then it came about half a month late, but then after that I lost it again and haven’t had it for like 3 or 4 months now. I was always pretty regular before so it’s not a fall out. People say that you lose your period with weight loss but I still have a double chin and pretty thick upper thighs so I don’t think I’m too skinny. Is it because I cut out grains? I have been eating them again for a while and twice I thought my period was about to come but it didn’t. Or is it the food combining? Do I need to gain weight again to get my period back? But I still think I should lose the fat that’s still left on my face and legs. What should I do?!?
Answer: Its just that your body needs time to adjust, give it a while. If youre concerned, Id reccomend a doctor, Congrats on the weight loss by the way! Smiles and Luck, Belle. :)

About How Long Will It Be for Weight Loss Results?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: i’m morbidly obese, 16 yrs old and 222.6 lbs. i’m eating a healthy diet, cutting calories and doing the 30 day shred level 1 workout about 3 times a week along with 30-45 min walks on the treadmill. how long do you think it will take for me to see results?? please don’t just say i’m fat, i’m trying to become more healthy so i don’t want to hear any negative comments. thanks :D
Answer: You know what good for you on making the decision to better your health. So don’t listen to any chowderheads that will try to discourage you. It takes a lot of will power and mental strength to go through with the difficult decision because its just as easy to do nothing and give up.

Cutting calories+working out = DEFINITE and wayyyy noticeable results. You may not see them the first couple of weeks but trust me, you WILL see them before the 1 month mark hits and maybe even sooner! it just depends how much you put into it because the more you put, the more improvement you will see. There’ll be times that will be hard because not everyone around you may watch what they eat and you’ll be tempted to give in but stick to your healthy diet and you’ll be glad in the end!

Good luck to you!

What is an Effective OTC Weight Loss Pill?

What’s this week’s weight loss question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: What are the requirements? Do I need to work out? Eat less? Maybe a pill that will cut my appetite if there even is such a thing. My friend gave me a sample of Oxyelite Pro that they were giving away for free at GNC that has 10 pills, I havent taken any yet I want opinions before I start. I started running on the treadmill 3 days ago but I’m so sore the next morning for work and I’d rather do it the Lazy-American way and just take a pill to get rid of my problems.
I’m not overweight I just have fata** legs and a bit of extra weight I’d like to lose.
Answer: "I’m not overweight I just have fata** legs and a bit of extra weight I’d like to lose."

So you’re overweight.

You’re also the reason this country has such a large amount of obese people "I’d rather do it the Lazy-American way and just take a pill to get rid of my problems."

Get the fuck out of my country. I’ve got a pill for you, it contains cyanide.

Weight Loss for My Stupid Fatass?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of weight loss. Let’s take a look:

Question: Hey, so I just used that title to get attention. ANYWAYS, I’m not overweight but I’ve gained weight this year from eating a crapload and inactivity. I’m currently 108 pounds and 4′11". I want to go back down to 100 in about 1.5 months. I’m thinking it may be harder to drop from 108 to 100 as opposed to something like 350 to 330.

Here’s the plan I’ve been on for 4 days:
Jog on treadmill for 25 minutes a day

YEP. that’s it. And I don’t drink anything but water.

Will my "plan" help me get to my desired weight? Also, is it normal for weight gain in the beginning because it seems to fluctuate between 108-110; or maybe it’s a crappy scale.

Answer: You are correct in the assumption that it is more difficult for someone your size to drop 8 pounds than it is for someone 300 lbs to drop 50 lbs. You are removing a larger percentage of your complete mass.

Your diet in counter productive to long term fat loss, but may see some success. I also think that your exercise plan may be lacking, if you truly wanted to tighten up your body.

1. Intake. Drinking just water is fine, but not if you are removing all foods. I do agree that in order for someone your size to lose, it requires a lot of effort. I am in the same boat. I am fairly thin at 5′11” 160 lbs, and those that know me, find it odd I am restricting and doing cardio.

The biggest problem your diet has, is that while you will lose fat, you are also going to have a lot of muscle wasting. Muscle is what will actually keep your metabolism higher. This is because muscle will burn more at rest, so we want to preserve that muscle.

.Increase protein consumption. This nutrient is far to important to miss. Most of the time you see starvation cases from 3rd world countries, it is the lack of protein that causes the bloating, depigmentation of the skin etc. So consume about 50 grams of protein a day. Eat vegetables, but avoid fruits. Keep your meal plan simple. 1000 calories at least.

2. Exercise. 25 minutes just isn’t enough. Once again, we need to preserve muscle, so strength training will be in order. It doesn’t have to anything crazy, but an additional 20 minutes of light calisthenics will go a long way.

You want to improve the overall composition of your body, not just lose fat. Those that have a better composition can actually eat more and have more energy.

As fat as the weight on the scale, the normal human body fluctuates by a few pounds throughout the day. Simply drinking 16 oz of water will make you gain one pound until you excrete or use it (16 oz of water weighs a pound). This is why the best time to weigh yourself is when you first wake up. This is because the past 6-8 hours is always the same diet, nothing while you sleep. Still, even then a small fluctuation is normal.

How Long Until I Start to See Weight Loss Results from My Workout/diet?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I bike to the gym, about 10-15 minutes, then I go on the treadmill and do this: Do intervals for 5 minutes, then after that set it at 4.5, and every five minutes increase the speed by .1, so by the time I’m done I’m at about 4.9/5. I usually go for about 25 minutes. Then I bike home, which is about 15 minutes, maybe a bit longer since there is a steep hill. I do this 5 days a week.
I use weights for my arms so they tone a little better, and I try to do this every time I am at the gym. I quit my ab/pilate workout because I was told that it didn’t matter if I did it - I had to lose weight before you could see my abs anyway. I’ll continue it once I’ve lost a little more weight.

I was 155lbs about 2.5 weeks ago, and I’m about 150 now and plan to go down to 135 (I’m 5′7). Is what I’m doing alright?

Also, I eat healthy - cut out carbs/calorie drinks/most treats. I stick to protein, like fish and chicken, yogurt (sometimes after I work out) fruits, and such. Thanks for your help!

Answer: Hi Tegan 11. Your physical activities and diet plan seem fine and don’t forget to rest ok? Losing weight also requires a little patience. Most people often complain about diets and exercises that never worked because they have no determination to begin with. Give your body time to react to the changes. Your diet lacks green and leafy vegetables. drink lots of water and not too much meat. You should also eat foods that burn belly fat.

HELP :Weight Loss Plan(for Females)?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: How many days should you workout a week and how long? And when do I start increasing the time and days of my workouts?Being 5′4" female how many calories should I be taking in a day? What do you suggest be the best workout plan?…Currently I am about 175-180lbs and I want to be between 130-140lbs.

Can somebody who knows from experience or a trainer help me( fyi I have my own equiment:wii fit, treadmill, gazelle, wave, and tony little’s easy shaper.I just need to know how to use them or it)Thank you!
I want to be eating 3 meals a day instead of like the 5-6meals a day plans.I want to lose the weight by exercising and eat right. Not popping pills. So please help me begin.

Answer: When starting out exercising, work out every other day, and do something low impact like yoga, swimming, or walking. Up your exercise only when you feel your body can handle it. You don’t want to hurt yourself, so definitely listen to your body.

Use this calculator to figure out your daily calorie needs. It will tell you also how many to cut out for weight loss:

You have a WiiFiit? Awesome. You can get Just Dance, and get in some really good cardio. :)

Good luck!

Weight Loss Help? Please Reply.?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’m a fourteen, fifteen in September, year old female. My height is 5′6. I’m hoping to lose about 10 or 15 pounds in a relatively short amount of time. I currently weigh 120 pounds. I usually walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill for at least 5 days a week. I only consume around 1000 calories a day, but I’m having trouble losing weight. I mostly need to lose it in my stomach area, and I would really enjoy slimming down my arms (triceps mostly). Any advice?
Answer: Sounds like you might benefit from an extra daily training session, if not more walking then perhaps a "core" focused exercise workout like Pilates or Yoga. Something will help trigger those muscles into action that are being missed in your walking sessions (There are also some great arm related exercises/positions that might help with your tricep areas)

Also, personally not sure why calorie consumption is 1000 (I would have thought 1200 what be a better fit for you). Starving your metabolism with a restricted calorie intake will send your body into survival mode, thus storing that unwanted fat not releasing it … but thats just me :P

Dangerous Weight Loss?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: Hi! As a new year’s resolution, I vowed to lose weight. I have been losing 2 lbs. average per week. I am now 145, and at 5 foot 9 inches, I think this is a perfect weight for me. My diet is pretty strict. For breakfast I eat a 100 cal yogurt and a 150 cal oat bran muffin. I also take a Centrum women’s vitamin. Then I will walk on the treadmill @3mph on a 10% grade. The treadmill says I burn 220 calories but I don’t think it’s that much. For lunch I will have 180 cal soup, another oat bran muffin, and a cup of raspberries. Or I might have sushi. It depends on the day. For dinner I might have grilled vegetables and salmon. My total daily calorie intake is probably close to 1000. I read online that this is terribly unhealthy and “anorexic” (which I don’t want to be considered). Various internet sources said that it is deadly, and at the least you’ll lose your hair, muscles, periods, and become really tired! I am now scared for my health. If I knew my diet would have been this unhealthy, I wouldn’t have done it. My question is, how unhealthy is my diet? How many calories should I be eating? And how do I start maintaining my current weight without gaining any back?
Thanks a lot!
I’m 18 by the way.
Answer: 2lbs per week is too fast. Losing between a half to 1 pound per week is pretty good.

Your diet is pretty strict, mainly on the carbs side. It was good call to take the Centrum vitamins (you might not be getting all the energy/protein you need from your diet, but at least you’re getting your vitamins and minerals right).

It’s a pretty well balanced diet, and the only thing I would say is to try some meat (preferrably poultry) every other day and increase your carb intake. For example, forget the oat bran muffin for lunch, and eat some rice, potatoes (not fries) or bread. Also, try to snack, I mean, try to eat every 3 1/2 hours. You won’t be so hungry and you’ll increase your calorie intake a bit.

Also, if you want, you can really start eating a lot more and just increasing your amount of daily exercise, i.e., running (0%) instead of walking for example, or just walking longer. Try to perform different exercises, not just climbing, so your work different groups of muscles and do not put strain always on the same joint (climbing is not good for knees in the long run).

Also, at 18, you might still be growing. Do not restrict your calorie intake too much.

The average adult woman should eat between 1800 to 2000 calories per day. But it all depends on how much you exercise really. The thing is: exercise more, eat more, exercise less, eat less. However, do exercise; it’s good.
