Just Dance for Weight Loss?

Another weight loss question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’ve decided to change my lifestyle. I’m eating healthier and I go on walks almost everyday. And I use just dance and just dance 2 for about 30-60 minutes each day. But ive heard that it isn’t a real workout. If it isn’t why do I drip sweat afterward? Lol. So any success stories with dancing games? Like with Just Dance or DDR. I’ve just started eating healthier and exercising last week. I can’t really tell I I’ve lost any weight because being on my monthly makes me gain about 10-20 lbs water weight.
Answer: Uh, I’ve never gained 10 lbs of water weight. That’s odd.

DDR is great for cardio (and fun!). But if you want to lose inches, in addition to eating clean (which you did, good job!), you’d have to incorporate resistance work, such as pushups, pull ups, squats, deadlifts, and planks.

About How Long Will It Be for Weight Loss Results?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: i’m morbidly obese, 16 yrs old and 222.6 lbs. i’m eating a healthy diet, cutting calories and doing the 30 day shred level 1 workout about 3 times a week along with 30-45 min walks on the treadmill. how long do you think it will take for me to see results?? please don’t just say i’m fat, i’m trying to become more healthy so i don’t want to hear any negative comments. thanks :D
Answer: You know what good for you on making the decision to better your health. So don’t listen to any chowderheads that will try to discourage you. It takes a lot of will power and mental strength to go through with the difficult decision because its just as easy to do nothing and give up.

Cutting calories+working out = DEFINITE and wayyyy noticeable results. You may not see them the first couple of weeks but trust me, you WILL see them before the 1 month mark hits and maybe even sooner! it just depends how much you put into it because the more you put, the more improvement you will see. There’ll be times that will be hard because not everyone around you may watch what they eat and you’ll be tempted to give in but stick to your healthy diet and you’ll be glad in the end!

Good luck to you!

How Long Until I Start to See Weight Loss Results from My Workout/diet?

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I bike to the gym, about 10-15 minutes, then I go on the treadmill and do this: Do intervals for 5 minutes, then after that set it at 4.5, and every five minutes increase the speed by .1, so by the time I’m done I’m at about 4.9/5. I usually go for about 25 minutes. Then I bike home, which is about 15 minutes, maybe a bit longer since there is a steep hill. I do this 5 days a week.
I use weights for my arms so they tone a little better, and I try to do this every time I am at the gym. I quit my ab/pilate workout because I was told that it didn’t matter if I did it - I had to lose weight before you could see my abs anyway. I’ll continue it once I’ve lost a little more weight.

I was 155lbs about 2.5 weeks ago, and I’m about 150 now and plan to go down to 135 (I’m 5′7). Is what I’m doing alright?

Also, I eat healthy - cut out carbs/calorie drinks/most treats. I stick to protein, like fish and chicken, yogurt (sometimes after I work out) fruits, and such. Thanks for your help!

Answer: Hi Tegan 11. Your physical activities and diet plan seem fine and don’t forget to rest ok? Losing weight also requires a little patience. Most people often complain about diets and exercises that never worked because they have no determination to begin with. Give your body time to react to the changes. Your diet lacks green and leafy vegetables. drink lots of water and not too much meat. You should also eat foods that burn belly fat.

Help Weight Loss… is Cardio the Best for Weight Lose? 30pounds to Lose!..?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: Hi I’m 18 5′4 166lbs I want to lose weight. I drink a lot of water. I’m a vegetarian.. And I at least want to lose 30pounds (135lbs).. Is running up and down the stairs, jump roping good exercise? I also have a workout dvd the biggest loser the workout it says you can lose up to 30lbs in 6 weeks two month’s… How many times a week should I workout for and for how long?…… Last night I was on my phone just doing nothing and just thought I should just workout so I did I went out side walked for 22 minutes then ran up and down my 5 little stairs lol for like 6 or 7 minutes :D it was great! My fore head was sweating!! Do you think that was a good workout?… I must say working out makes me really happy and energetic! Even my mom says she knows when I just did a workout because I’m so much more happier :D does it make you feel that way too? …….. Thanks……
Answer: Is cardio the best for weight lose?:

This is difficult to answer without giving you an exam. "weight loss" in the fitness world needs to be re-written to "fat loss" I have GAINED weight before and actually have been healthier, lost a lot of fat and had lower cholesterol. Remember muscle is denser. So 1lb of fat takes up FIVE TIMES the space 1lb of muscle does. How much your body is pulled to the earth and makes the scale read is irreleavnt. These are things that will make you get in much better shape:
1)Loss of fat. - You don’t want a fat ratio less than 9% and no greater than 20% So find out your fat ratio. (bodyfat percentage)

2)Don’t use weight as a measurement of your progress. You will discourage yourself and think you aren’t making any headway and give up. IF the scale is going to lower (which it will if you are overweight) it will take some time before you see those results.

3)Be realistic. Those people on that show have a lot of time and you have NO idea how much time has passed when you see the results they get. It’s all condensed. Also they are handheld in what they eat, HOW they work out and how much effort they put in is "drill instructed" by their coaches..
You are alone, free to eat as you please and nobody is going to prod you along the treadmill… Hence you might not rocket to the 6 week plan they claim to have "earned"

Is running up and down the stairs, jump roping good exercise?:
Yes. Any exercise is good but those are good for a few reasons.
1)cardio
2)Easy to do anywhere so compliance will be high
3)Highest impact for the effort exerted

How many times a week should I workout for and for how long?
At least 3 times per week and as long as you put in 30 minutes (or more) each session you are going to do great!

My fore head was sweating!! Do you think that was a good workout?:

Yes. Sweat is a great indicator of you expelling calories. The more you burn, the better you will get at this!! You do NOT want to be dripping like you are in the shower. It should be a mist and nothing more. It’s a KNOWN fact that going beyond your "burn index" heart rate wise is actually a complete waste of time. If you can get to a gym only one time, have them do a "bod pod" workup on you. This will find out what your "ideal heartrate" is for burning fat. :D it’s WAY lower than you think and much easier to achieve than building mass (instead of losing fat)

does it make you feel that way too?

Generally speaking, any accomplishment makes me feel good. Yes it does make me feel that way. Energy, happiness they’re components of a good fitness regimen..

Lastly, you didn’t ask but FOOD.
Intake is at least 60% of the battle.
If you took two people who sat on a couch all day and did NO EXERCISE and one ate what they wanted and the other ate only what a specialist (for nutrition) fed them, the person being fed would LOSE weight.
Go online and find sources that will provide meals and ideas for weight loss (fat loss) in mind.
Atkins is the best proven because of compliance.
A lot of people on here will say "eat this or eat that"
but if you aren’t all about salads and cottage cheese you simply won’t obey the plan.
Atkins has a high success rate because people aren’t "giving up" any of their favored foods. Hence MAJOR compliance

Hope that helps.

Calorie Intake and Weight Loss?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: Hi there. Im looking to lose some weight and tone up. Currently my daily diet consists of 2 cups of coffee, 2x 500ml Energy Drinks, 1.5L water, Tin of soup and 2 slices of granary bread.
My daily workout consists of 2 sets of 30 sit ups, increasing by 5 reps each day, 20 dumbbell curls, 2x 20 rep 35 kg barbell press.
I don’t go to a gym, i just train at home with the equipment i have there, do you think that i will start seeing results quickly given this program?
Answer: You will see results quickly, but you know all that muscle you’re trying to build .. your body is gonna eat it up.

You’re eating NO where near as much as you should be, as a rough calculation, you’re getting about 400 calories from ‘food’ per day, a woman should have an absolute minimum of 1200 (1500 minimum for men).
Stop drinking energy drinks, they’re just sugar and do nothing for your body. Eat healthily and lots of protein - you won’t even need them!

If you are serious about losing weight and toning up, you need to eat more and also put some cardio into your workout (to burn fat) if you run/jog/cycle/swim for 30-60 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, you can then do your planned workout on Tuesday and Thursday, or mix it up so you do 2 cardio sessions and 3 strength session.

If you do my plan, then yes, you will see results.
If you follow your plan, your body will be in starvation mode and when you eat normally again, you’ll end up putting on even more weight than you started with.

Good luck!

Calorie Deficits and Weight Loss Help!?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Im 21 .. 5′7 and weight 220 (now 216 - 4lbs in 10day =/ ) .. i started my workout on march 1st .. i eat about 1500 calories per day (but my BMR is 2696) .. and i workout 6 days a week burning about 500 calories .. so does this mean that i should be eating 2000 calories on the days i work out? because i have to cover the calories that i burned? I dont understand this calorie deficit thing if someone could please explain! thanks

my goal is to lose 70 lbs so i have long way to go! please post anything helpful!

Answer: Yes, you will lose a lot at first, thats all water weight.
Your BMR is 2696 which means you burn that much even at rest … if you eat 1500 calories a day, you’ll be creating a deficit of 1196cal! ( 2696 - 1500 ) … which means you’ll burn that much even with food in your stomach! .. at that rate you’ll lose about 2-3lbs in a week( without exercise ). But remember that as your weight decreases, so does your BMR …. So as you lose, be sure to calculate your BMR often. Mine went from 1722 to 1402 ( 162lbs to 138lbs ).
You can actually increase your calorie intake to 2000calories … & yes, it is advisable to eat more when you exercise, because a 220lbs person can burn up to 800cal during a 30min exercise session & it makes your net intake lower than 1000 ( if you eat 1500 ) .. whenever you are gonna exercise, i suggest you add extra 500cal to your diet!.
Hope this helped

What a great weight loss question:

Question: I run 30 minutes on the treadmill at 4.5mph and at a 4% incline.
10-15 minutes weights

Answer: Sure if you you do it at least a few times a week along with proper eating. Otherwise then it may get you into better shape and tone more but you won’t lose a thing.
