Does a Colon Cleanse Cause Weight Loss?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: I know they are used for cleaning out a colon before a colonscopy, but these days people say you can loose weight, or jump start a diet or something like that. Is this true? what have you guys heard?
Answer: Doing a colon cleanse for a medical procedure is necessary and the fluid used is prescribed to keep you from losing necessary components, such as potassium and sodium. Doing it try and lose weight is just plain pointless and possible dangerous.
You may lose a few pounds, mostly water weight, but that is it and it does nothing to "jump start" a diet of any kind.
Put quite simply, its not a good idea unless monitored by a licensed physician. Any fool can do them with the right equipment and I sure wouldn’t trust those people.

  1. No. It doesn’t cause you to lose fat, or anything else that constitutes a part of your body.

It just empties out your bowels. You may walk around with a pound or two of food and/or fecal matter in the pipe waiting to come out at any given time. Normally you eat a bit every day, and defecate a bit too, keeping roughly the same amount inside of you. A colon cleanse just empties it out all at once. As soon as you eat again, the process goes back to normal, and you gain that pound or two back again.
