It seriously boost your metabolism.
What you do is get on the treadmill. Start with a five minute warm up.
Then sprint for 1 minute. Slow down and jog or walk for 2 minutes. Sprint for 1 minute. Jog for 2. Keep up this pattern until you've sprinted five times. 
Then do a five minute cool down. This type of exercise burns a ton of calories by pushing your body to it's limit rather than just doing a simple jog. You'll continue to burn calories after too.
Weightlifting will help boost metabolism too and will give you some muscle as an extra bonus. If you lift weights, do it before the running because you'll burn more calories while you run.
