Start off with like porridge or whole grain cereal for breakfast, this will release energy slowly and not leave you hungry (never skip breakfast its compulsary for dieters to kick-start there motabolism). Have a small snack at about 10-11, this could be a low calorie cereal bar, peice of fruit or a low fat yoghurt. Then for Lunch, a small portion of plain wholegrain pasta, with 4 fish fingers, or 2 fish cakes, or maybe just a peice of chick or fish(without being breaded/batterd/south fried), with vegetables, or a jacket potato (without butter and cheese) with baked beans or tuna & salad, or you could just get a take away supermarket chicken salad sandwich. Then at about 3, have a peice of fruit, then for tea (at 4:20) have a salad with some lean meat, fish, or eggs, with a low-fat yoghurt, or sugar-free jelly. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING AFTER 5PM(this trick works wonders). Do as much excersize as you so wish, but you don't need to go mad!

What you want to do is run. A lot. Don't eat a lot less, just eat more healthy. And no, the "healthy" version of the cake you wanted doesn't cut it. Don't run on a treadmill, they suck. Actually run. Maybe try running in a sweat suit for more effectiveness. Also, do a lot of cardio work. You can't be half into it. If you want to lose weight, you have to be all in.
