I Was Told That Jump Rope is Good for Weight Loss, How?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I purchased a jump rope & mistakingly got a thread one…
So I am thinking of rapping duct tape around it to make it heavier?
Good idea or no?

Also how exactly is it good for weight loss?
Like what do I do?
Sets? If so how long, how much?

Answer: Well, it builds leg strength and stamina. It works your stomach muscles as well as your arm muscles. If you can do at least a hundred do a hundred.. JUst do as many as you can until you feel tired. And after try to do more each day… It really does help.

  1. I used to treat it like a cardiovascular workout - so do 20 minutes without stopping (maybe start off with 10 mins) lol. see if you can build up more and more - it’s definitly good and really gets your heart going!

  2. It is a fantastic way to lose weight. No don’t put duct tape on it. It shouldn’t be too heavy . Just start jumping and try to use two feet when you do it. Jump up with two feet and down. Start with ten times and keep it up. You will feel your heart rate rise quickly. Keep it up for about one hundred jumps. Then rest and either jog or speed walk to maximize your muscles that are now warmed up . The jogging will help to elongate the muscles in your legs and torso and arms. Doing both will have an excellent workout for your body.

  3. Jumping rope is a great cardio workout. Cardio is good for weight loss if you are eating healthy as well. Find out how many calories you need to mantain your weight and create a deficit through exercise and/or calorie counting. Sites like livestrong.com can help you track calorie intake as well as what calories you are burning and all tailored to your height, weight and age. If you are just beginning, not having a weighted rope should not matter. I would try to jump for as long as you can, maybe 15-20 minutes to start, and look up jump rope tricks to try to make it more fun. Hope this helps :)
