Weight Loss Questions?

Keep the weight loss questions coming! I liked this one:

Question: k i am 5′7" and weigh 120 pounds.. and im trying to lose about 5-10 pounds. if i cut my caloric intake to 850 calories per day and i burn at least 400 of those calories off per day doing swimming/tennis/cheer/tumble, will i be able to lose the weight? do you think this diet thing will be effective? tips?
Answer: 120 lbs at 5′7" is like, the ideal weight for your height…instead of trying to lose more pounds, I’d suggest trying to maintain that weight.

If you take in 850 calories and burn 400 of them off, you’re only taking in 450 calories, which is *definitely* not a good idea. Your body will be deprived of the nutrients it needs to function. A good calorie intake per day would be anywhere from 800-1200 calories. The average girl eat about 1200-1700 calories per day, so by reducing it to 800-1200, you will lose weight in a healthy and effective way.

  2. You may lose a few pounds, but since you will be going below your healthy body weight, your body will eventually hoard fat to keep you alive. You WILL be sick and WILL end up in the hospital.

  4. Yes, you would lose weight. However, they say dropping below 1000 calories per day can result in your body going into starvation mode and burning lean muscle instead of excess fat. Try staying at 1000, and that will definitely work!

  5. if youre eating 850 and burning 400 you wont lose weight….maybe your estimate of how many you burn is off.,.but to lose weight you have to burn more than you take in.

i believe you burn 1 calorie per minute just sitting around…
im pretty sure you are burning more than 400 calories…i wouldnt decrease the amount you eat, but i would increase your workout

    (+850 cal)+(-400cal)=+450 cal
    get it?

  6. Only eating 850 calories per day is not healthy, especially since you will be working out. You can eat more without eating fatty foods. Add some extra eggwhites to your breakfast and some veggies to your lunch and dinner. As long as you eat healthy (no fastfood or restaraunts, even the ones that seem healthy) and burn those 400 calories that you mentioned, you will be fine. Starving yourself is counterproductive, it slows down the weight loss process. Also, at 5 ft 7, 120 lbs. you probably look just fine, you prob don’t even need to lose weight. since you will anyways, don’t lose more than 5-1 0 good luck!
